Preliminary investigations into the response of O+ twaite shad (alosa fallax) to ultrasound and its potential as an entrainment deterrent

TL;DR: Fish protection solutions for water intakes are manifold and include: alterations to intake design; management of the abstraction regime; modification of existing screens to make them “fish friendly”; provision of fish return systems; and the installation of physical screens or behavioural deterrents to prevent or minimise entrainment.

The effect of estuarine fisheries on juvenile fish observed within the Guadalquivir Estuary (SW Spain)

TL;DR: The number of marine fish that use the estuary as a nursery ground decreased, and there was a marked decrease in their density upstream, which found considerable temporal changes in fish density, with minimum values during the colder months (the glass eel fishing season).

Downstream migration and hematophagous feeding of newly metamorphosed sea lampreys (Petromyzon marinus Linnaeus, 1758)

TL;DR: Results show that downstream migration occurs between October and May with a peak in March, and suggest that part of the postmetamorphic lampreys start the hematophagous feeding in the river, with a special affinity for anadromous species, probably because of their larger size.

Habitat use of age - 0 twaite shad (alosa fallax lacépède, 1803) in the tidal freshwater region of the elbe river, germany.

TL;DR: In this paper, the distribution of twaite shad larvae in the lower Elbe River downstream the city of Hamburg was examined by ring net, lift net and pop net sampling.
Journal ArticleDOI

Morphometric, meristic character and electrophoretic analyses of two Irish populations of twaite shad, Alosa fallax (Lacépède)

TL;DR: The two major differences found were the dwarfed size of the Killarney shad and the increased numbers of gill rakers carried on the first branchial arch.
