TLDR
In this paper, the authors focused on the response of laterally loaded pile foundations in sand under scour considering the stress history of the remaining sand, and the relative density and coefficient of lateral earth pressure of the sand were evaluated when it changed from a normally consolidated (NC) soil to an overconsolidated (OC) soil due to scour.

A review of bridge scour: mechanism, estimation, monitoring and countermeasures

TL;DR: In this article, a comprehensive and up-to-date literature review of bridge scour research and practice is presented, which are categorized into four aspects: macroscopic and microscopic mechanism, scour depth prediction carried out by experimental and field data, direct and remote monitoring methods and active and passive countermeasures.

Scour effects on p-y curves for shallowly embedded piles in sand

TL;DR: In this paper, a series of centrifuge model tests with various scour profiles were conducted at a scale of 1:250 to investigate the effects of both local and general scour on the response of a laterally loaded pile.

Assessment of structural integrity of bridges under extreme scour conditions

TL;DR: In this article, a comprehensive model of representative bridges that overpass waterways is developed in order to estimate the response of bridges under scour conditions, including local scour, general scour and aggradation/degradation.

Assessment of foundation design for offshore monopiles unprotected against scour

TL;DR: In this article, the effect of using expected scour depths when designing for the ultimate limit state and the fatigue limit state is illustrated by means of a desk study, where the effects of scour protection on the stiffness of offshore monopiles are investigated.

The strength and dilatancy of sands

Malcolm D. Bolton
- 01 Mar 1986 -
TL;DR: In this paper, the strength and dilatancy of 17 sands in axisymmetric or plane strain at different densities and confining pressures are collated, and the critical state angle of shearing resistance of soil which is shearing at constant volume is determined experimentally within a margin of about 1°, being roughly 33° for quartz and 40° for feldspar.
