TLDR
In this paper, the spatial coherence properties and directionality of partially coherent cosh-Gaussian (ChG) beams are studied based on the theory of optical coherence, and it is shown that unlike Gaussian Schell-model (GSM) beams, in the strict sense there do not exist partially coherent ChG beams which may produce the same far field radiant intensity distribution as a fully coherent laser beam.

Relay Propagation of Partially Coherent Cosh-Gaussian Beams in Non-Kolmogorov Turbulence

TL;DR: In this article, the average intensity and power in the bucket of the relay propagation of partially coherent cosh-Gaussian (ChG) beams in non-Kolmogorov turbulence have been derived based on the extended Huygens-Fresnel principle.

Design and optimization of phase plates for shaping partially coherent beams by adaptive genetic algorithms

TL;DR: In this paper, the adaptive genetic algorithms (AGAs) are applied to the design and optimization of phase plates for shaping partially coherent beams, and the simulation procedure based on the AGAs is described.

The directionality of partially coherent beams expressed in terms of the far-field divergence angle and of the far-field radiant intensity distribution

TL;DR: In this article, the authors studied the far-field divergence angle and directionality of partially coherent cosh-Gaussian beam (ChG) with respect to three competing physical mechanisms, i.e., spatial coherence, diffraction and decentration, which affect the divergence angle of the partially coherent ChG beams.

Can two partially coherent cosh-Gaussian beams generate far fields with the same spectral degree of coherence?

TL;DR: In this article, the spectral degree of coherence of partially coherent cosh-Gaussian (ChG) beams in the far field was studied and it was shown that, unlike Gaussian Schell-model (GSM) beams, in the strict sense there do not exist two partially coherent ChG beams which can generate far fields with the same spectral degree.

Optical Coherence and Quantum Optics

Leonard Mandel, +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors present a systematic account of optical coherence theory within the framework of classical optics, as applied to such topics as radiation from sources of different states of coherence, foundations of radiometry, effects of source coherence on the spectra of radiated fields, and scattering of partially coherent light by random media.
Journal ArticleDOI

Unified theory of coherence and polarization of random electromagnetic beams

TL;DR: In this article, a unified theory of coherence and polarization of random electromagnetic beams is presented, which brings out clearly the intimate relationship which exists between these two phenomena and which makes it possible to predict the changes in the state of polarization of a partially coherent electromagnetic beam on propagation.

Is complete spatial coherence necessary for the generation of highly directional light beams

TL;DR: An equivalence theorem is formulated that provides conditions under which planar sources of different states of spatial coherence will generate optical fields that have identical far-zone intensity distributions.

An example of a Collett-Wolf source

TL;DR: In this article, it was shown that a Collett-Wolf source can be produced starting from a spatially incoherent source and using a collimating lens and an amplitude filter.

Partially coherent sources which produce the same far-field intensity distribution as a laser

TL;DR: In this article, it was shown that certain partially coherent model sources whose intensity distribution and degree of coherence are both gaussian will generate the same far-field intensity distributions as a completely coherent laser source.
