Abstract
The system consists of a large array of individually controlled, nearly flat mirrors which direct solar energy into a well insulated optical cavity absorber located at the top of a centrally located tower. Highly concentrated solar flux enters the cavity from the bottom through a windowless aperture and is absorbed in a working fluid. Results of studies by Sandia Laboratories, Livermore, California are summarized and future investigations are outlined. Emphasized is development of an efficient energy absorbing system for electrical power generation, and design consideration for a working system to verify performance calculations. (WDM)

Optical properties of solar-absorbing oxide particles suspended in a molten salt heat transfer fluid☆

TL;DR: In this paper, the optical absorption properties of a high temperature molten salt heat transfer fluid were measured from 0.35 to 2.5 μm using both hemispherical transmission and reflection techniques.

Concentrated solar power on demand

TL;DR: In this paper, a concentrating solar power system is presented which uses hillside mounted heliostats to direct sunlight into a volumetric absorption molten salt receiver with integral storage, and the concentrated sunlight penetrates and is absorbed by molten salt in the receiver through a depth of 4-5m, making the system insensitive to the passage of clouds.

Concentrated solar power system

TL;DR: In this article, a solar energy receiver for use with concentrating and storing solar energy is described, which includes a container for holding a solar absorption material, such as a phase change material, and a cooled cover disposed above the container for condensing and collecting vaporized phase change materials collected along an underside of the cover.

Compact high-flux two-stage solar collectors based on tailored edge-ray concentrators

TL;DR: In this article, a new primary reflector shape based on the tailored edge-ray concentrator (TERC) approach and a secondary TERC tailored to its particular flux map, such that more compact concentrators emerge at flux concentration levels in excess of 90% of the thermodynamic limit.
