During an X-ray procedure, the position and orientation of an invasive device, such as a catheter are measured with radio frequency fields and displayed stereoscopically. Instantaneous three-dimensional positions of the invasive device are displayed by superposition of a graphic symbol on static X-ray images obtained at two different view angles. The X-ray images are obtained only when deemed necessary by the operator to minimize X-ray dose. A single X-ray source and detector may be implemented since it is not necessary to obtain the X-ray images simultaneously.read more

Medical diagnosis, treatment and imaging systems
TL;DR: In this article, a locating system for determining the location and orientation of an invasive medical instrument relative to a reference frame is proposed, consisting of a plurality of field generators (18, 20, 22) which generate known, distinguishable fields, preferably continuous AC magnetic fields, in response to drive signals, and a set of sensors (30, 32, 34, 34) which proximate the distal end of the invasive medical device and generate sensor signals in response.
Patent
Magnetic determination of position and orientation
TL;DR: In this article, a magnetic position and orientation determining system using magnetic fields, desirably comprising uniform fields from Helmholtz coils (34, 36, 38) positioned on opposite sides of a sensing volume and gradient fields generated by the same coils, is presented.
Patent
Method and apparatus for surgical navigation
TL;DR: In this article, a non-invasive dynamic reference frame and/or fiducial marker, sensor tipped instruments, and isolator circuits are used for navigating a region of a patient.
Patent
Medical procedures and apparatus using intrabody probes
TL;DR: In this paper, the relative positions of a medical probe relative to another probe were determined by transmitting non-ionizing radiation to or from field transducers mounted on both probes, and two or more probes were coordinated with one another to perform a medical procedure.

Device construction and method facilitating magnetic resonance imaging of foreign objects in a body
TL;DR: In this paper, a method for imaging foreign objects in a body having tissue by the use of magnetic resonance imaging and x-ray imaging is presented, where the body is then subjected to magnetic and radiofrequency fields to create magnetic resonance in the body and in the foreign object.
Patent
Medical instrument location means
TL;DR: In this paper, a signal energy level measurement device is coupled to the receiving element and it produces an energy level value for each one of the receiving elements. And the measured distance is then indicated to an operator of the instrument so that he can locate the instrument within the object.
