Book ChapterDOI
Bacterial oxidation of methane and methanol.
TL;DR: This chapter focuses on the enzymes involved in the bacterial oxidation of methane and methanol to formaldehyde and the energy transduction systems involved in coupling these oxidations to ATP synthesis by way of electron transport chains, proton translocation, and the proton motive force.
Journal ArticleDOI
Alcohol oxidases of Kloeckera sp. and Hansenula polymorpha. Catalytic properties and subunit structures.
TL;DR: Alcohol oxidase (alcohol: oxygen oxidoreductase) of a thermophilic methanol-utilizing yeast, Hansenula polymorpha DL-1, was isolated in crystalline form and was more stable to heat than was the enzyme of Kloeckera sp.polymorpha, compatible with the difference in growth temperatures for both yeasts.
Journal ArticleDOI
Growth yields of microorganisms on methanol and methane - theoretical-study
TL;DR: The calculations disclosed that for growth on methane, at least for Methylococcus capsulatus, a reversed electron transport system is required when methane is oxidized by a mixed function oxidase, and the validity of the estimations of growth yields is discussed.
Book ChapterDOI
Biology, Physiology and Biochemistry of Hyphomicrobia
Wim Harder,Margaret M. Attwood +1 more
TL;DR: This chapter reviews the genus Hyphomicrobium, the group of organisms that consists of either rod- shaped cells with pointed ends or oval- or bean-shaped cells and produce mono- or bipolar filamentous outgrowths of varying length.

Protein Measurement with the Folin Phenol Reagent
TL;DR: Procedures are described for measuring protein in solution or after precipitation with acids or other agents, and for the determination of as little as 0.2 gamma of protein.
Journal ArticleDOI
Disc electrophoresis – ii method and application to human serum proteins*
TL;DR: The technique of disc electrophoresis has been presented, including a discussion of the technical variables with special reference to the separation of protein fractions of normal human serum.
Journal ArticleDOI
Estimation of the molecular weights of proteins by Sephadex gel-filtration.
TL;DR: The results are similar to those of previous studies, where the objective was to establish a cause-and-effect relationship, rather than a straightforward relationship between the number of cells and the content of the molecule.
Journal ArticleDOI
A Methane-Dependent Coccus, with Notes on Classification and Nomenclature of Obligate, Methane-Utilizing Bacteria
J. W. Foster,Richard H. Davis +1 more
TL;DR: A new coccus-shaped bacterium capable of aerobic growth at the expense of methane or methanol in a mineral salts medium is described and the prefix "Methylo-" is suggested as a solution to the problem of generic cognomens.
