A series of polysiloxanes having laterally-attached mesogenic side chains and involving variations in spacer length and the nature of the two end groups are reported in this paper.Abstract:
A series of polysiloxanes having laterally-attached mesogenic side chains and involving variations in spacer length and the nature of the two end groups are reported. The terminally-attached analogues of some of these polymers are also reported. Optical microscopy and differential scanning calorimetry were used to establish the mesomorphic properties. An explanation is proposed for the low TN-1 values observed for the polymers with laterally attached side chains.read more

Mesogen -jacketed liquid crystalline polymers
TL;DR: The semi-rigid rod-like MJLCP with a tunable rod shape in both length and diameter provides an excellent building block in designing novel rod-coil liquid crystalline block copolymers which can self-assemble into hierarchical supramolecular nanostructures depending on the competition between liquid crystal formation and microphase separation.

Effects of molecular weight on liquid-crystalline behavior of a mesogen-jacketed liquid crystal polymer synthesized by atom transfer radical polymerization
TL;DR: The synthesis of poly{2,5-bis[(4methoxyphenyl)oxycarbonyl]styrene} (PMPCS) with different molecular weight and low polydispersity was achieved by atom transfer radical polymerization in methoxybenzene solution using 1-bromoethylbenzenesene as an initiator and CuBr/sparteine complex as a catalyst.

Nematic silsesquioxanes—towards nanocrystals dispersed in a nematic liquid crystal matrix
TL;DR: The reaction of suitable organic groups in combination with well defined inorganic silsequioxane cores leads to covalently bound organic-inorganic hybrid materials, which exhibit nematic and smectic properties as mentioned in this paper.
