TLDR
In this article, an absorbent collection strip has attached to a detection strip impregnated with a reagent to respectively form collection and detection regions of an integral pad, where a dermal surface is wiped with the collection region to remove a contaminant of interest therefrom and collect it on the collecting region, which is then wetted with a solvent which has a selective affinity for the contaminant.Abstract:
An absorbent collection strip has attached thereto a detection strip impregnated with a reagent to respectively form collection and detection regions of an integral pad. A dermal surface is wiped with the collection region to remove a contaminant of interest therefrom and collect it on the collection region, which is then wetted with a solvent which has a selective affinity for the contaminant. The solvent carries the contaminant or a reaction product thereof by capillary action through the collection region to the detection region where it reacts with the reagent to produce a color change which indicates the presence of the contaminant. The collection region may also be impregnated with a substance for either facilitating removal of the contaminant from the dermal surface or for cooperation with the reagent in producing the color reaction. The solvent may be either inert to the reagent or may cooperate with it in producing the color reaction. The detection region may be impregnated with plural reagents at physically spaced-apart locations, the reagents being combined by operation of the solvent to produce the color reaction.read more

Method and apparatus for determination of chemical species in body fluid
TL;DR: In this article, a method and apparatus for the non-invasive determination of one or more preselected analytes in a body fluid expressed through the skin is presented, where the fluid is collected in a dermal concentration patch and concentrated by driving off a portion of the substantial water fraction under the influence of body heat.

Method and apparatus for determination of chemical species in perspiration
TL;DR: In this article, a dermal patch is worn on the skin for increasing the concentration of an analyte expressed through the skin in perspiration to a conveniently measurable level, and methods of using such patches to determine the quantity of analyte in a given volume of perspiration, to determine a subject's sensitivity to an allergen, and to dissolve structural components of a patch to facilitate analyte detection.

Method of determining an analyte
TL;DR: In this paper, a membrane (250) comprising an adhesive is secured to the skin of a subject, and the membrane retains concentrated analyte in or on the membrane itself, in the adhesive, and in the desquamated stratum corneum cells of the skin.

Transdermal dosimeter and method of use
TL;DR: A transdermal dosimeter, a device used to monitor exposure to chemical agents is disclosed in this article, which is attached to the skin surface and functions by causing the uptake of compounds that are excreted through the skin.
Patent
Dermal substance collection device
TL;DR: In this article, a dermal substance collection device (DSCD) is proposed for the non-invasive, instantaneous and continuous monitoring of chemical substances which are present in a detectable amount in either or both interstitial fluid or sweat or which are on or in the skin.
Patent
Transdermal detection system
TL;DR: A transdermal detection system for the detection of a target substance which migrates to the surface of the skin of a subject by diffusion comprises detector means and attachment means as discussed by the authors.

Diagnostic test card
Stephen B. Friedman,Mel J. Riley +1 more
TL;DR: A test card adapted for the performance of an immunochemical diagnostic or serological test thereon comprises a test surface member and a covering member foldable thereon, the covering member being provided with circular convex windows which when folded over are in registry with circular test areas on the test surface, permitting visual observation of test results, the inner surface of covering member having adhered to a continuous sheet of an absorbent material which becomes transparent upon contact with a liquid, said sheet extending across the windows and permitting viewing of the test results when the test card is closed as discussed by the authors.
