Tests of symmetry based on Cramer-von Mises statistics
D. L. Hill,P. V. Rao +1 more
TLDR
In this paper, the authors combined the statistics of Rothman and Woodroofe (1972) and Srinivasan & Godio (1974) to define a statistic for testing the symmetry of a continuous distribution about a specified median.Abstract:
SUMMARY Statistics of Rothman & Woodroofe (1972) and Srinivasan & Godio (1974) are combined to define a statistic for testing the symmetry of a continuous distribution about a specified median. The proposed statistic is shown to possess a desirable invariance property. Exact and asymptotic null distribution of the statistic and tables of critical values for sample sizes 10 < n < 24 are also given.read more

Quantifying publication bias in meta-analysis
Lifeng Lin,Haitao Chu +1 more
TL;DR: A new measure is introduced, the skewness of the standardized deviates, to quantify publication bias, which describes the asymmetry of the collected studies' distribution and is illustrated using simulations and three case studies.

Nonparametric estimation and symmetry tests for conditional density functions
Rob J. Hyndman,Qiwei Yao +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, two improved methods for conditional density estimation were proposed based on locally fitting a log-linear model, and is in the spirit of recent work on locally parametric techniques in estimation.

Nonparametric Estimation and Symmetry Tests for Conditional Density Functions
Rob J. Hyndman,Qiwei Yao +1 more
TL;DR: This work suggests two improved methods for conditional density estimation based on locally fitting a log-linear model and a constrained local polynomial estimator, both of which always produce non-negative estimators.

A Distribution-Free Test for Symmetry Based on a Runs Statistic
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present a simple test based on a runs statistic for symmetry of a continuous distribution about a known median, which has a binomial sampling distribution and desirable invariance properties.
Empirical likelihood based hypothesis testing
TL;DR: In this article, the empirical likelihood is used to localize the empirical probability using a suitable time variable implicit in the null hypothesis and then form an integral of the log-likelihood ratio statistic.

A Cramer Von-Mises Type Statistic for Testing Symmetry
E. D. Rothman,Michael Woodroofe +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, a Cramer von-Mises type statistic is proposed for testing the symmetry of a continuous distribution function and its asymptotic null distribution is found explicitly.
