Fish Traits: A Database of Ecological and Life-history Traits of Freshwater Fishes of the United States

TL;DR: A database of > 100 traits for 809 fish species found in freshwaters of the conterminous United States, including 37 native families and 145 native genera is compiled.
Journal ArticleDOI

Assessing water quality at large geographic scales: relations among land use, water physicochemistry, riparian condition, and fish community structure.

TL;DR: The universal importance of riparian zones to the maintenance and restoration of diverse fish communities in streams is suggested, including practices that regulate the delivery of nutrients, suspended sediments, and total dissolved solids into streams.
Journal ArticleDOI

Are the Smallest Organisms the Most Diverse

Kenneth P. Dial, +1 more
- 01 Oct 1988 -
TL;DR: The C-S-R model of primary plant strategies-origins, implications and tests is compared to a functional description of vegetation and its range and adaptive significance in a local flora.
Journal ArticleDOI

Rapid allopatric speciation in logperch darters (Percidae: Percina).

TL;DR: The empirical observation of high diversification rates in logperches demonstrates that allopatric speciation can occur rapidly, and demonstrates that the geographic mode of speciation for a clade cannot be inferred from the diversification rate.

Fishes of North America Endangered, Threatened, or of Special Concern: 1989

TL;DR: Comparison of the 1979 and 1989 list of rare North American fishes indicates that recovery efforts have been locally effective for some species, but are cleverer than was earlier believed.
Journal ArticleDOI

Mouth and Body Form Relative to Feeding Ecology in the Fish Fauna of a Small Lake, Lake Opinicon, Ontario

TL;DR: In 14 cohabiting fish species in a small freshwater lake, mouth and body structures combine with food specializations and habitat preferences to greatly restrict interspecific competition within the fauna.
