TLDR
Aflatoxin consumed immediately before the immunizing period did not impair the development of a solid immune response and mean agglutinin titers of the vaccinated aflatoxin recipients were of the same magnitude as those of vaccinated recipients of normal rations.Abstract:
Aflatoxin (0.25-0.5 ppm B1 activity) consumed during or after the period of immunization against Pasteurella multocida interfered with the development or manifestation of acquired resistance in 2067% of turkey poults and chicks. Aflatoxin consumed immediately before the immunizing period did not impair the development of a solid immune response. Aflatoxin fed for 3 weeks caused changes in several parameters including reduced rate of gain in body weight, histologic changes of the liver, and reduced levels of several plasma proteins. When an aflatoxin-free ration was fed for 3 weeks after toxin consumption, each of the above parameters returned to normal, but the defect in immunity remained when the principals had been immunized during the period of aflatoxin consumption. Plasma protein changes included reduced levels of total protein, a,p-globulin, and albumin; levels of a-globulin remained normal. Mean agglutinin titers of the vaccinated aflatoxin recipients were of the same magnitude as those of vaccinated recipients of normal rations.read more

Immunotoxicity of mycotoxins.
TL;DR: The immune system is primarily responsible for defense against invading organisms and the effects of several mycotoxins on the immune responses have been investigated; however, most data concern laboratory animals.

Mycotoxicosis: mechanisms of immunosuppression.
TL;DR: The sensitivity of the immune system to mycotoxin-induced immunosuppression arises from the vulnerability of the continually proliferating and differentiating cells that participate in immunemediated activities and regulate the complex communication network between cellular and humoral components.

Aflatoxins in Animal and Human Health
J. F. Robens,J. L. Richard +1 more
TL;DR: Aflatoxins remain as a threat to the health of livestock as well as humans by their continuing intermittent occurrence in both feeds and foods and the latest and most comprehensive study found no association between aflatoxin exposure and PLC mortality.

Immunosuppression in Chickens by Aflatoxin
TL;DR: Aflatoxin, a potent natural contaminant in feedstuffs, suppressed hemagglutinin formation in chickens and can account for the carcinogenecity of aflatoxin as well as the enhanced susceptibility to some infectious agents found during aflatoxicosis.

Dietary exposure of broiler breeders to aflatoxin results in immune dysfunction in progeny chicks
TL;DR: The findings of this study imply that the progeny chicks from hens consuming a AF-amended diet may be increasingly susceptible to disease owing to suppression of humoral and cellular immunity.

TL;DR: The rat is considerably less susceptible to aflatoxin than most other species investigated and for male rats the LD50 is 7 mg a flatoxin B1/kg body-weight (administered by stomach tube, dissolved in dimethylformamide 5 mg/ml.)
