Journal ArticleDOI

Do the best design ideas (really) come from conceptually distant sources of inspiration

TL;DR: In this article, the authors test the popular but unevenly supported hypothesis that conceptually distant sources of inspiration provide the best insights for creative production and find that citing sources is associated with greater creativity of ideas, but conceptually closer rather than farther sources appear more beneficial.
Journal ArticleDOI

A data-driven text mining and semantic network analysis for design information retrieval

TL;DR: The Declaration and List of Publications are presented as well as a list of publications related to the declaration and some of the books and articles related to this declaration are listed.
Journal ArticleDOI

The Impact of Analogies on Creative Concept Generation: Lessons From an In Vivo Study in Engineering Design

TL;DR: Surprisingly, it was found that concepts were more similar to their preceding concepts after far analogy use compared to baseline situations (i.e., without far analogyUse), and far analogies increased the team's concept generation rate comparedto baseline conditions.
Journal ArticleDOI

From reverse engineering to shape engineering in mechanical design

TL;DR: In this article, the fundamentals of shape representation, shape processing and mining at a conceptual, geometric and computational level are investigated to address geometric reverse engineering issues in mechanical design, and new developed concepts based on discrete curvatures are presented.
