Conception of Design Principles for Additive Manufacturing

TL;DR: The paper proposes conceiving of Design Principles for Additive Manufacturing repository where formalised AM knowledge is stored in the form of design principles and structured based on function criteria.
Journal ArticleDOI

At the origins of Product Service Systems: Supporting the concept assessment with the Engineering Value Assessment method

TL;DR: In recent years, the economic circumstances spur many companies in changing their traditional product-oriented value proposition toward a more customised and sustainable offer referred as Product-S... as mentioned in this paper.

Relating Design Process to Quality: A Virtual Design of Experiments Approach

TL;DR: In this article, the authors focus on better understanding how design processes affect outcomes in mechanical engineering design and find that more time spent on system-level design (including problem generation, idea generation, and analysis activity) and on concept-level problem definition activity associate positively with design quality, while more time was spent on concept level idea generation and detailed design associated negatively with quality.

Interplay of sketching & prototyping in early stage product design

TL;DR: Results showed that individuals who only sketched generated more ideas, explored broader design space, and had more novel final designs, but participants who were allowed to both sketch and build prototypes explored the design space in more depth and tended to have final ideas that were perceived as more creative.

Applying principles of mass customization to improve the empirical product development process

TL;DR: This paper presents a method for applying principles of mass customization to the empirical sub-processes within a product development process and two case studies are presented to demonstrate the method.
