TLDR
An analysis of patient histories and eye findings reveal interesting facts, including the time between cataract surgery and onset of visual decrease was three months, and the presence of systemic vascular disease in the patient does not seem to determine the eye's long term visual performance.

Intravitreal triamcinolone acetonide for refractory chronic pseudophakic cystoid macular edema

TL;DR: Intravitreal administration of TAAC was safe and effective in recalcitrant cases of pseudophakic CME with a beneficial effect on the macular edema and visual acuity.
Journal ArticleDOI

Pseudophakic cystoid macular edema.

TL;DR: Though the precise mechanistic details underlying pseudophakic CME remain to be elucidated, 2 primary hypothetical components have been implicated in its pathogenesis and the first of these is ocular inflammation, as alluded to by Irvine’s classical description of an ‘‘irritated’’ eye.
Journal ArticleDOI

A perspective on the treatment of aphakic cystoid macular edema.

TL;DR: The role of certain aspects of cataract surgical technique, laser photocoagulation, vitreoretinal surgery and medical therapy utilizing corticosteroids and antiprostaglandins, and the difficulties encountered in the evaluation of the efficacy of any treatment modality advocated for ACME are reviewed.
Journal ArticleDOI

Pseudophakic cystoid macular edema.

TL;DR: The treatment of CME remains controversial but generally starts with conservative observation in isolated angiographic cases and progresses through topical non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agents (NSAIDs), topical steroids, peri-ocular steroids, systemic steroids and surgical intervention in refractory cases.
Journal ArticleDOI

PHARMACOLOGIC THERAPY OF PSEUDOPHAKIC CYSTOID MACULAR EDEMA: 2010 Update

TL;DR: Surprisingly, few changes have occurred in recent years in the treatment of pseudophakic cystoid macular edema, and placebo-controlled, double-masked, randomized, clinical trials are largely lacking.

Macular edema and cystoid macular edema.

TL;DR: Cystoid macular edema was present in two eyes that contained peripheral choroidal melanomas, and in a third eye from a patient with diabetes only, and retinal vascular changes, consisting mainly of endothelial cell abnormalities, were found in all cases but were far more common in the two eyes from diabetic patients.
Journal ArticleDOI

Posterior vitreous detachment

TL;DR: A posterior vitreous detachment (PVD) is a gap between the vitreOUS gel and the retina that occurs when the retina is removed from the eye.
Journal ArticleDOI

Prevention of cystoid macular edema after lens extraction by topical indomethacin (I). A preliminary report.

TL;DR: Topically administered indomethacin was found to reduce the occurrence of cystoid macular edema after lens extraction as mentioned in this paper, which suggests that prostaglandins play a leading role in the development of this disorder.
