The magnetic circular dichroism spectra of matrix-isolated benzene
TL;DR: The magnetic circular dichroism (MCD) spectra of the 1 B 2u ←1 A 1g transition of benzene in nitrogen and argon matrices at 20 K have been measured in order to obtain a spectrum devoid of hot bands and complicating rotational structure.
Journal ArticleDOI
VUV excitation of benzene
TL;DR: In this article, it was shown that in the condensed phase, the electronic relaxation processes leading to the emitting states are not as fast as usually assumed, and that the phosphorescence emission is still observed after the extinction of the excitation during the warming up as a thermoluminescence.

Applications of the Matrix Isolation Technique in Magnetic Circular Dichroism Spectroscopy
TL;DR: An apparatus for the measurement of the magnetic circular dichroism (med) spectra of matrix-isolated species between 14 and 50 K is described in this paper, where the application of these measurements to the interpretation of the vibrational structure of electronic spectra is illustrated using benzene and osmium tetroxide as examples.

Environmental perturbations on foreign atoms and molecules in solid argon, krypton and xenon
Maclyn McCarty,G. Wilse Robinson +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, London's theory was shown to give an adequate approximation to the dispersion energy between an electronically excited species and a rare gas atom, and the experimental shifts in the electronic and vibrational spectra of Hg, NH and C2 at lattice sites in rare gas crystals at 4·2°k were explained quantitatively on the basis of a Lennard-Jones (6-12) or 6-8-12 potential between the trapped species and the rare gas atoms.

Absorption spectra of metal atoms in solid xenon
TL;DR: In this paper, the absorption spectra of lithium, sodium, cadmium, and mercury in solid xenon were obtained at temperatures between 4.5 and 30.0°K and the assignments of the isolated components were confirmed by concentration studies or by selective bleaching of the components.
