Oxytocin augmentation of dysfunctional labor

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that approximately 40 minutes is required for any particular dose of oxytocin to reach a “steady-state” [OT]p and the maximal uterine contractile response and the design of regimens for the augmentation or induction of labor should be based on this knowledge.

Oxytocin and contractility of the pregnant human uterus

TL;DR: The contractility of the pregnant human uterus is measured by means of a thin polyethylene catheter introduced into the amniotic sac through the anterior abdominal wall and connected with aSanborn electromanometer, model 121C, which is plugged to a Sanborn Poly-Viso recorder, model 1.50.

Inherent motility patterns and response characteristics of the nonpregnant human uterus

TL;DR: Heinricius’ proposed a modification of the method to permit recording of activity of the nonpregnant uterus in viva through the use of a thin rubber bag.

Active management of labour and cephalopelvic disproportion

TL;DR: A preoccupation with cephalopelvic disproportion is the main reason for a reluctance to abandon the conservative attitude towards labour which prevails in the United Kingdom and Ireland.
Journal ArticleDOI

Uterine contractility and oxytocin sensitivity in preterm, term, and postterm pregnancy.

TL;DR: The results suggest that the response of the uterus to oxytocin early in pregnancy may help to identify patients who will be delivered before or after term.
