TLDR
The study supports earlier results and extends them to a single pellet reward situation by giving goalbox placements directly over the food cup and rewarding two groups of rats with a single 1,000-mg pellet.Abstract:
Two groups of rats were given goalbox placements directly over the food cup. Group P was rewarded with a single 1,000-mg pellet on Placements 1, 3, and 5, while Group C was rewarded on each placement. The usual PREE was obtained when Ss ran the full length of the alley. The study supports earlier results and extends them to a single pellet reward situation.read more

TL;DR: This paper showed that partial reinforcement via direct goalbox placements, whether interspersed with reinforced running trials or not, led to increased resistance to extinction (R to E) of a runway response.

Extinction of a runway response following runway or goal box partial reinforcement
TL;DR: Rats were trained on a consistent reinforcement schedule in a straight runway and switched to one of two partial reinforcement procedures, and when extinguished in the full length of the runway both groups were more resistant to extinction than groups trained only on consistent reinforcement.
