TLDR
The effects of ocean waves on the stability of underwater slopes in soft underconsolidated deltaic sediments are examined in this paper, where the authors show that the pressure changes on the sea floor, associated with the passage of a wave, are able to cause shear failure in soft sediments in water depths up to about 400 ft.
Abstract
Synopsis The effects of ocean waves on the stability of underwater slopes in soft underconsolidated deltaic sediments are examined. The pressure changes on the sea floor, associated with the passage of a wave, are able to cause shear failure in soft sediments in water depths up to about 400 ft. The waves impose an oscillatory motion on the soft sediments which, on sloping ground, leads to a mass transfer of soil down slope. Also the repeated reversals of shear strain in the sediment cause remoulding of the sediment and a reduction in shear strength.

Deformation processes in unconsolidated sands

TL;DR: In this article, a genetic classification of soft-sediment deformation processes and structures is presented, which are combined to produce a genetic classifier of softsediment structures and deformation mechanisms.

Identifying triggers for liquefaction-induced soft-sediment deformation in sands

TL;DR: In this paper, a methodology is proposed for analysing soft-sediment deformation structures within their overall sedimentological and palaeoenvironmental context in order to refine and improve criteria for distinguishing the action of ‘external’ (allogenic) triggers, including earthquakes, from ‘internal” (autogenic) trigger.

Mechanism of wave-induced liquefaction and densification in seabed

TL;DR: In this article, a concept of the oscillatory excess pore pressure has been introduced and verified by model experiments using a newly developed apparatus, and the following main conclusions are drawn from the study; 1) The oscillatory exore pressure is excited in the seabed where the wave-associated bottom pressure is propagated into the seafloor with some damping and phase lag.

Tsunami-induced sediment transport in the abyssal Mediterranean Sea

TL;DR: In this article, an unusual stratigraphic unit (nicknamed "homogenite") fills topographic lows in the complex ridge and trough bathymetry at two survey sites on the Western Mediterranean Ridge and the Calabrian Ridge.

Genesis of limestone megabreccias and their significance in carbonate sequence stratigraphic models: a review

TL;DR: A review of megabreccia occurrence shows that these deposits formed on a broad range of carbonate slope angles and that metastable oversteepened slopes are not necessary for their genesis as mentioned in this paper.
