Abstract
The range of thermal spraying processes available for the deposition of surface coatings for compressor, combustion chamber and turbine section components in aero engines are described, and typical coating applications discussed. Combustion flame, arc wire, high velocity combustion and plasma spraying techniques are described, and coatings for wear, oxidation and corrosion resistance, clearance control and thermal barrier applications are discussed.

A finite element analysis technique for predicting as-sprayed residual stresses generated by the plasma spray coating process

TL;DR: In this paper, finite element coupled heat transfer and elastic-plastic thermal stress analysis using a general purpose commercial FEM software ANSYS (ANSYS Inc., Southpointe, PA, USA) are presented to simulate the in situ residual stress generation during plasma spraying of duplex thermal barrier coatings (TBCs).

Tribological behaviour at various temperatures of WC-Co coatings prepared using different thermal spraying techniques

TL;DR: In this article, the tribological performance of WC-12Co coatings prepared via air plasma spraying, low pressure plasma spraying (LPPS) and high-velocity air-fuel spraying (HVAF) at temperatures ranging from room temperature (RT, ~25°C) to 650°C was investigated.

Improvement of thermally sprayed abradable coating by microstructure control

TL;DR: In this paper, the microstructure of recently developed abradable materials for providing a sealing between rotating and stationary parts in aerospace turbine engines was characterized using X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy.

Characterisation of HVOF sprayed Cr3C2-50(Ni20Cr) coating and the influence of binder properties on solid particle erosion behaviour

TL;DR: In this article, the effect of annealing on the solid particle erosion behavior and understand the influence of the binder properties was investigated. But the results were limited to the case of a 50-wt. Ni20Cr coating.
