Mechanisms for Diurnal Variability of Global Tropical Rainfall Observed from Trmm

TL;DR: The behavior and various controls of diurnal variability in tropical-subtropical rainfall are investigated using tropical rainfall measuring mission (TRMM) precipitation measurements retrieved from: (1) TRMM Microwave Imager (TMI), (2) Precipitation Radar (PR), and (3) TMI/PR Combined, standard level 2 algorithms for the 1998 annual cycle as discussed by the authors.
Journal ArticleDOI

A theoretical investigation of the sea breeze

TL;DR: In this article, a primitive equation model is formulated and integrated numerically to study the sea breeze, which is an extension of an atmospheric boundary-layer model previously developed for a homogeneous terrain.
Journal ArticleDOI

Convection Initiation by Density Currents: Role of Convergence, Shear, and Dynamical Organization

TL;DR: In this paper, the impact of vertical shear on density currents and the implication for convection initiation is investigated. But the authors focus on the downshear current and do not consider the upshear case.

Characteristics of the Sea Breeze System in Perth, Western Australia, and its Effect on the Nearshore Wave Climate

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors used fortynine years of wind data collected at Perth airport (about 20 km inland) and found that almost 200 sea breezes are experienced per year with an average wind speed at mid-afternoon (15:00 hrs) of 5.7 m/s.
