TLDR
In this article, the authors present a formalism of the two-dimensional electromagnetism covariant under the pseudo-orthogonal group SO(2,1) for diffraction by plane obstacles as well as electromagnetic wave propagation in waveguides.
Abstract
Starting with a discussion of the two-dimensional scalar and spinor wave equations, the author presents a formalism of the two-dimensional electromagnetism covariant under the pseudo-orthogonal group SO(2,1). He proves that this covariant formalism makes it easier and more unambiguous to discuss diffraction by plane obstacles as well as electromagnetic wave propagation in waveguides.

Geometrical optics and geodesics in thin layers

TL;DR: In this paper, the propagation of a light ray in a thin layer (film) within geometrical optics is considered, and it is assumed that the ray is captured inside the layer due to reflecting walls or total internal reflection (in the case of a dielectric layer).

Relativistic Theory of Diffraction by Plane Apertures at Oblique Incidence

TL;DR: In this paper, a relativistic theory for the diffraction of scalar and electromagnetic waves impinging at any incidence on plane apertures is presented, where the diffracted field is obtained by an integral relation with, as diffracting kernal, a socalled focus wave mode.

Limitations in the 2D description of the electromagnetic waves propagation in thin dielectric and magnetic layers

TL;DR: In this paper, the propagation of electromagnetic waves trapped within dielectric and magnetic layers is considered, and the description within the three-dimensional theory is compared to the simplified analysis in t...

Reduction of the classical electromagnetism to a two-dimensional curved surface

TL;DR: In this paper, the reduction of the three-dimensional classical electromagnetism is performed in a two-fold way in the form of conserved electric currents flowing along the surface.
