Unilateral Vocal Fold Paralysis and Voice Therapy: Does Age Matter? A Prospective Study With 100 Consecutive Patients.

TLDR
A clear and significant improvement was visible in the endoscopic and self-assessment ratings after rehabilitation by isolated voice therapy, and despite possible anatomical and physiological aging changes in the phonatory system, age did not compromise the successful rate obtained by voice therapy.
Abstract
Objective:To use a multidimensional assessment to analyze potential influence of “aging” in the functional outcomes achieved by a group of patients with recent onset of unilateral vocal fold paraly...

In vivo vocal fold augmentation using an injectable polyethylene glycol hydrogel based on click chemistry

TL;DR: In rabbit models with vocal fold paralysis, the PEG hydrogel stably fixed the paralyzed vocal fold in 4 months and minimizing the glottic gap was an improved therapeutic result compared to CaHA-CMC, demonstrating the potential of a click chemistry-based PEG Hydrogel for vocal fold therapy.

Effect of aging on respiratory system physiology and immunology

TL;DR: Older adults have decreased sensation of dyspnea and diminished ventilatory response to hypoxia and hypercapnia, making them more vulnerable to ventilatories failure during high demand states (ie, heart failure, pneumonia, etc) and possible poor outcomes.
