TLDR
It is shown that the use of arboreal strata, most probably to access food, may also be an important factor to consider in analysing habitat use by wood mice, and implications of the recent evolution of this agro-silvo-pastoral system to the species ecology are emphasized.About:

Highway verges as habitat providers for small mammals in agrosilvopastoral environments
Fernando Ascensão,Fernando Ascensão,Anthony P. Clevenger,Clara Grilo,Clara Grilo,J. Filipe,Margarida Santos-Reis +6 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the importance of fenced highway verges as habitat for small mammals in Mediterranean agrosilvopastoral landscapes was assessed, and the authors suggest the adoption of management practices to increase the height and cover of herbaceous and shrub layers in road verges, together with creating grazing controlled areas in highway vicinity.
Journal ArticleDOI
Coexistence between Javan Slow Lorises (Nycticebus javanicus) and Humans in a Dynamic Agroforestry Landscape in West Java, Indonesia
K. A. I. Nekaris,Stephanie A. Poindexter,Kathleen D Reinhardt,Marie Sigaud,Francis Cabana,Wirdateti Wirdateti,Vincent Nijman +6 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the interaction between humans and Javan slow lorises (Nycticebus javanicus) in Cipaganti, Java, Indonesia, was studied.
Journal ArticleDOI
Farming and wildlife in Mediterranean agroecosystems
TL;DR: In this article, the authors examined the influence of farming systems, agri-environmental and wildlife management measures on birds and mammals in Mediterranean agroecosystems and concluded that the most cost efficient and beneficial conservation measures for bird and mammal species are rotation, intercropping, and the selection of appropriate crops and farming practices.
Journal ArticleDOI
Road verges are refuges for small mammal populations in extensively managed Mediterranean landscapes
TL;DR: In this article, live-trapping methods were used over a 2-year period to characterise the structure and dynamics of small mammal populations at increasing distances from the motorway (0-500-1000m).
Journal ArticleDOI
Effects of management options on mammal richness in a Mediterranean agro-silvo-pastoral system
TL;DR: Non-flying mammal richness and distribution were studied in a landscape matrix consisting of a highly managed agro-silvo-pastoral system dominated by a cork oak woodland to test the predictions of the Intermediate Disturbance Hypothesis (IDH), and landscape heterogeneity and riparian corridors were shown to be most beneficial to mammal species richness.

Kernel methods for estimating the utilization distribution in home-range studies
TL;DR: Kernel methods are of flexible form and can be used where simple parametric models are found to be inappropriate or difficult to specify and give alternative approaches to the Anderson (1982) Fourier transform methods.
Journal ArticleDOI
Compositional Analysis of Habitat Use From Animal Radio-Tracking Data
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors advocate proportional habitat use by individual animals as a basis for analysis and use compositional analysis of such nonstandard multivariate data for analysis of habitat use based on radiotagged animals.
Journal ArticleDOI
An Evaluation of the Accuracy of Kernel Density Estimators for Home Range Analysis
D. Erran Seaman,Roger A. Powell +1 more
TL;DR: Computer simulations are used to compare the area and shape of kernel density estimates to the true area andshape of multimodal two—dimensional distributions and show the fixed kernel gave area estimates with very little bias and the cross—validated fixed kernel also gave surface estimates with the lowest error.
