TLDR
In isolated Class I GR defects, CPF associated with ABM/P-15 provided no significant difference in root coverage and CAL gain compared to CPF alone, and a greater reduction in GR was associated with higher bone level at baseline.
Abstract
Background: This study clinically evaluates the treatment outcome of coronally positioned flap (CPF) associated with anorganic bone mineral/peptide-15 (ABM/P-15) in terms of root coverage and gain in clinical attachment level (CAL) and bone height (BH) in isolated Class I gingival recession (GR) defects. Methods: Fifteen healthy subjects with bilateral and comparable Miller Class I GR defects were selected. The defects were randomly assigned either to the test group (CPF with ABM/P-15) or to the control group (CPF only). Results: Six months after surgery, a reduction in GR was observed in the test and control groups (2.20 ± 0.54 and 2.40 ± 0.80 mm, respectively; P <0.001) with no intergroup difference (P = 0.33). Complete root coverage was obtained in 10 and 11 defects in the test and control groups, respectively. In the test group 85.56% ± 21.69% and in the control group 90.00% ± 18.42% of the exposed root was covered. Although not clinically significant, a statistically greater increase in the gingival th...

Periodontal Soft Tissue Root Coverage Procedures: A Systematic Review From the AAP Regeneration Workshop

TL;DR: All RC procedures can provide significant reduction in recession depth and CAL gain for Miller Class I and II recession-type defects and subepithelial CT graft-based procedures provided the best outcomes for clinical practice.

Efficacy of periodontal plastic surgery procedures in the treatment of localized facial gingival recessions. A systematic review.

TL;DR: CAF procedures alone or with CTG, EMD are supported by large evidence in modern periodontal plastic surgery and achieved the best clinical outcomes in single gingival recessions with or without iCAL.

Evidence-based periodontal plastic surgery. II. An individual data meta-analysis for evaluating factors in achieving complete root coverage.

TL;DR: SCTGs, matrix grafts, and EMD were superior to CAF in achieving CRC, but SCTGs showed the best predictability, which should be taken into consideration when interpreting the present findings.

Bayesian network meta-analysis of root coverage procedures: ranking efficacy and identification of best treatment.

TL;DR: A Bayesian network meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) to establish a ranking in efficacy and the best technique for coronally advanced flap (CAF)-based root coverage procedures found CAF+CTG might be considered the gold standard in root Coverage procedures.

Problems and proposals for recording gingivitis and plaque.

Ainamo J, +1 more
TL;DR: The origin of indices for recording gingivitis and plaque is reviewed and the use of the site prevalence of a single finding is suggested, which could be used as a clinically relevant parameter for oral hygiene and gingival inflammation.

Gingival Recession, Gingival Bleeding, and Dental Calculus in Adults 30 Years of Age and Older in the United States, 1988-1994

TL;DR: The prevalence, extent, and severity of gingival recession increased with age, as did the prevalence of subgingival calculus and the extent of teeth with calculus andGingival bleeding, which are common in the U.S. adult population.

Coronally Advanced Flap Procedure for Root Coverage. Is Flap Thickness a Relevant Predictor to Achieve Root Coverage? A 19-Case Series

TL;DR: The results of this study indicate that there is a direct relation between flap thickness and recession reduction (P <0.0001), and flap thickness >0.8 mm was associated with 100% of root coverage.

Gingival recession: epidemiology and risk indicators in a representative urban Brazilian population.

TL;DR: The high level of gingival recession in this Brazilian population may be primarily related to destructive periodontal disease and is significantly associated with a highlevel of supragingival dental calculus and cigarette smoking.
