Use of Functional Assessment and a Self-Management System to Increase Academic Engagement and Work Completion:
TLDR
In this article, the authors investigated whether a functional relationship exists between self-monitoring with self-recruited reinforcement and an increase in both on-task behavior and as-signment completion.Abstract:
This study investigates whether a functional relationship exists between self- monitoring with self-recruited reinforcement and an increase in both on-task behavior and as- signment completion. The study further assesses whether self-monitoring with self-recruited reinforcement is associated with generalization of performance gains to untrained settings. Tr aining in self-management procedures included systematic instruction of behavior and gen- eral case programming to promote generalization of skills. An ABCAC design was used to assess the effects of self-management procedures in the training setting, and a multiple-baseline- across-settings design was used to assess generalization effects. The results demonstrated that a functional relationship existed between self-monitoring with self-recruited reinforcement and an increase in on-task behavior and assignment completion. Generalization of self- management skills to novel school contexts varied. The role of self-management procedures in promoting generalization is discussed.read more

Examining the Evidence Base for School-Wide Positive Behavior Support
TL;DR: In this article, the authors propose six criteria that may be useful in this discussion and apply these criteria to assessment of Schoolwide Positive Behavior Support (SWPBS), which combines multiple systems and practices within a three-tiered behavior support framework.

TL;DR: In this paper, a reconceptualization of the role of schools in preventing antisocial behavior problems among children and youth is presented, where the U.S. Public Health Service's conceptual model of prevention, involving primary, secondary and tertiary prevention approaches, is used as an organizing framework to illustrate how schools can deliver interventions more effectively and improve outcomes.
