Vortex generators on rotor blades to delay an onset of large oscillatory pitching moments and increase maximum lift

TLDR
In this article, an airborne mobile platform (10) generally includes a plurality of rotating rotor blades operating in an airflow that forms a boundary layer on each of the rotor blades, and at least one of these rotor blades includes a section that encounters the airflow that includes an unsteady subsonic airflow having at least a varying angle of attack.
Abstract
An airborne mobile platform (10) generally includes a plurality of rotating rotor blades (12) operating in an airflow that forms a boundary layer on each of the rotor blades. At least one of the rotor blades includes a section that encounters the airflow that includes an unsteady subsonic airflow having at least a varying angle of attack. At least one of the rotor blades also includes one or more vortex generators (30) on the at least one of the rotor blades that generate a vortex that interacts with the boundary layer to at least delay an.onset of separation of the boundary layer, to increase a value of an unsteady maximum lift coefficient and to reduce a value of an unsteady pitching moment coefficient for the section.

Blade for a rotor of a wind turbine provided with barrier generating means

TL;DR: In this article, a wind turbine blade is divided into a root region (30) with a substantially circular profile closest to the hub, an airfoil region (34), with a lift generating profile furthest away from the hub and a transition region (32) between the root region and the air foil region.

Passive Control of Compressible Dynamic Stall

TL;DR: In this article, a rotorcraft-type airfoil was retrofitted with a leading edge glove and tested with and without integral molded vortex generators, and the combined use of a transonic leading edge gloves and vortex generators led to the alleviation of dynamic stall pitching moments; the two concepts worked together to alleviate the severe pitching moments during stall, even though neither one was successful when used independently.

Method for determining optimum vortex generator placement for maximum efficiency on a retrofitted wind turbine generator of unknown aerodynamic design

TL;DR: In this article, a method of optimizing performance of a wind turbine electric generator (WTG) comprises the steps of measuring the performance of the WTG, defining an area on a blade of the turbine, placing stall flags within said defined area, monitoring the behavior of the stall flags when the turbine is operating, determining a stall line based upon the stall flag during operation, installing vortex generators on the blade adjacent to and upwind of said stall line, and monitoring the behaviour of the said stall flags during operation with vortex generators installed on all blades.

Flow control device and method of controlling flow

TL;DR: In this article, a reactive modular flow control device with deployable flow effectors is described, where the authors present a method of controlling air flow across a surface of an aircraft under certain flight conditions comprising the steps of sensing fluid separation from the surface by measuring the pressure on the surface, determining a standard deviation of the pressure measurements over a period of time, and deploying a flow of effector in response to the standard deviation.
