Abstract
A vortex shedding flowmeter is provided with a unitary obstacle element for shedding vortices and response element reacting to forces produced by the shedding vortices. A cylindrical element may be used for omni-directional measurement capability, with a pair of strain gauge bridges arranged in quadrature to provide a linearly variable frequency output proportional to flow velocity. Electronic circuitry transforms the frequency signal to an analog amplitude signal proportional to flow velocity. Sample and hold circuitry maintains a stable output under transient loss-of-input signal conditions.

Method and device for the dynamic and density-independent determination of mass flow

TL;DR: In this paper, a vortex generating bluff body is placed in the flow to generate vortices according to the principle of the Karman vortex path, and the velocity of flow (v) is determined via the effect of the vortex shedding at the bluff body.

Vortex generator-sensor

Hyok Sang Lew
TL;DR: In this article, a vortex flowmeter comprises a vortex generator-sensor including an elongated cylindrical member, disposed across a cross section of the flow passage, where one extremity is secured to the wall and the other is connected to a force receiving member extending from a transducer assembly.

Vortex-type flowmeter having strain gauge sensor in an elastic suspension

Peter J Herzl
TL;DR: In this paper, a flowmeter has a conduit forming a passage for the fluid to be measured and an obstacle assembly mounted therein capable of generating strong fluidic oscillations which cause a deflectable section of the assembly to vibrate at a corresponding rate.
