Chapter 12.3 X-ray Absorption Spectroscopy

TL;DR: In this article, a review of synchrotron-based studies of clays and clay minerals is presented, focusing on the application of XAS to elucidating the structure and reactivity of 2:1 phyllosilicates, with particular emphasis on smectites.

In situ EXAFS and XANES measurements of the change in Ti coordination during the calcination of a (TiO2)0.18(SiO2)0.82 aerogel

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors show that the coordination of Ti in this material changes from a mixture of four and sixfold to predominantly fourfold as the temperature is increased from ambient to 300 c. The decrease in static disorder, as the environment of Ti converts to predominantly a single site, is such that the overall Debye-Waller factor for the Ti-O shell decreases markedly even as temperature increases to 700 c.

Structural assessment of the electrochemical performance of LixCoO2 membrane electrodes by X-ray diffraction and absorption refinements

TL;DR: In this paper, Rietveld refinements of X-ray diffraction data were performed, with Li at 3a, Co at 3b and O at 6c in the space group R-3m as starting model, showing a continuous variation of the AC unit cell and structural parameters such as the lithium site occupancy and the Li-O and Co-O interatomic distances.
