In conclusion, sex steroids have both organisational and activational effects on the GH axis.
The data obtained have confirmed some older inferences about how the steroid acts, but have also revealed some unexpected aspects of estrogen action.
Thus these steroidal esters represent a new class of endogenous estrogens which have not been previously considered in the physiology of the female sex steroids.
This effect was not mimicked by other steroids, suggesting that it is not mediated by androgen or estrogen receptors.
This effect is specific for estrogenic steroids.
The effect of sex steroids depends on the genetic background.
