One unique feature of this work is the use of directional antennae for long range WiFi signal transmission.
With the development and deployment of new WiFi technologies, there will be more WiFi sensing opportunities wherein the targets may go beyond from humans to environments, animals, and objects.
However, the multi-path fading of WiFi signals causes time-varying received signal strengths of WiFi signals, which leads to poor accuracy of WiFi localization.
Therefore, to improve the positioning accuracy, we propose an improved WiFi positioning method based on fingerprint clustering and signal weighted Euclidean distance (SWED).

We present BackFi, a novel communication system that enables high throughput, long range communication between very low power backscatter devices and WiFi APs using ambient WiFi transmissions as the excitation signal.
Our evaluations demonstrate that Ultron can increase the WiFi and LTE throughput by 5x and 6x respectively, resulting from a sharp reduction in LTE-WiFi interference.
We demonstrate that we can recover the user positions and thus simultaneously generate dense signal maps for each WiFi access point and 4G LTE small cell, “from the pocket”.

3 answers
Article 1351 of the Civil Code of the Philippines refers to the principle of plural legal systems within the country, specifically recognizing the validity of the Muslim Personal Laws alongside the Family Code and Civil Code. This article acknowledges the distinct legal culture of the Muslim minority in the Philippines, which is based on Islamic principles. It was enacted in 1977 as a means to manage the situation of legal pluralism in the country. The complexities involved in the conceptualization and drafting of this Code include the use of ethnographic descriptions of Muslim customary law, the selection of rules from different schools of Islamic jurisprudence, and the harmonization of conflicts between laws applicable to Muslims and non-Muslims in the Philippines.
How does the flow cytometry method compare to conventional microscopy in terms of speed and accuracy?
5 answers
Flow cytometry offers advantages over conventional microscopy in terms of speed and accuracy. By incorporating high-resolution imaging capabilities, flow cytometry allows for complex morphological analysis of cellular and sub-cellular structures, which is not possible with standard microscopy. Additionally, flow cytometry can achieve high-throughput measurements of single-cell morphology and texture, providing information indicative of cell types, states, and functions. On the other hand, conventional microscopy is limited in accuracy when assessing cell sizes and total biomasses, especially for small-celled algae. While flow cytometry can accurately count and differentiate white blood cells (WBCs) and provide WBC differential counts, it may have difficulties in detecting eosinophils and non-blood cells in certain body fluids. Overall, flow cytometry offers faster and more accurate analysis of cellular structures and functions compared to conventional microscopy, but there are specific limitations and challenges for each method depending on the sample type and analysis requirements.
What are the healthcare-associated infections and nosocomial transmission of Candida auris infections?
5 answers
Healthcare-associated infections, also known as nosocomial infections, are a significant public health concern in hospital settings. Candida auris, a multidrug-resistant yeast pathogen, has emerged as a major threat due to its ability to cause outbreaks and its resistance to antifungal drugs. C. auris can easily contaminate the environment and is transmitted to new patients during close contact, leading to clonal outbreaks in healthcare facilities. The incidence of C. auris infections has increased among hospitalized patients with COVID-19, particularly the multi-drug resistant strains. The spread of C. auris in healthcare settings is a concern during the COVID-19 pandemic, and strict infection prevention and control measures, including isolation of affected patients and regular screening of non-affected patients, are recommended. Nosocomial transmission of C. auris has been reported during the worldwide spread of COVID-19, and antifungal drug resistance has been observed in many cases.
How have high throughput methods been used in drug screening with caenorhabditis elegans?
5 answers
High throughput methods have been used in drug screening with Caenorhabditis elegans. One study developed a modular pipeline for image processing and analysis for both parasitic and free-living worms, which can be adapted for use on similar imaging platforms. Another study established an efficient high-content screening technique using fluorescence imaging to discover bioactive natural products in C. elegans. They screened compounds on a transgenic worm strain and quantified the fluorescence of a specific protein to identify compounds that promoted its synthesis or secretion. A different study developed an automated and highly-integrated platform for high-throughput toxicity testing using C. elegans. This platform incorporated microfluidics, image acquisition/analysis, and automated food/drug delivery to evaluate general and neurotoxicology endpoints induced by environmental contaminants. Additionally, a study used a label-free survival assay to screen multiple microbial isolates for their effects on C. elegans susceptibility to severe heat and oxidative stresses, providing a pipeline for prescreening probiotics. Lastly, a practical and cost-effective high throughput screening assay was established to measure the motility of C. elegans and screen small molecules for potential anthelmintic candidates.
What are the symptoms of the latest predominant Covid strain?
5 answers
The symptoms of the latest predominant strain of COVID-19 include fever, dry cough, fatigue, dizziness, anorexia, headache, expectoration, dyspnea, chest tightness, abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea, persistent breathlessness, cough, chest pain, palpitations, neurological and cognitive deficits, rashes, and gastrointestinal dysfunction. In addition, other less common symptoms reported include muscle aches, conjunctivitis, skin manifestations such as morbiliform rash, urticaria, COVID fingers, vesicular eruptions, and livedo reticularis. These symptoms can persist for a minimum of 4 weeks after the onset of the infection, leading to a condition known as 'long COVID'. It is important to recognize the gastrointestinal symptoms of COVID-19, such as decreased appetite, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain, as they may be present in a substantial number of confirmed patients.
What is waste, plastic?
3 answers
Waste plastic refers to the discarded materials made of synthetic or natural polymers that have lost their customer properties due to being used and are no longer wanted. Plastic waste is a major component of municipal solid waste and poses a significant threat to the environment and human health. Plastics have several advantages, such as durability, lightweight, and good barrier properties, which make them a sustainable alternative to other materials. However, the difficulty in decomposing plastic and the improper management of plastic waste lead to its accumulation in landfills and the environment. To address this issue, there is a need for effective waste management strategies, including recycling and reuse of plastic materials. The concept of a circular economy, which aims to promote resource efficiency and minimize waste, is crucial in managing plastic waste. Additionally, the development of bioplastics and the adoption of the 3R approach (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) can contribute to mitigating the plastic waste problem.
How many institutes used the SEIR model to calculate covid mortality in India?
5 answers
The SEIR model was used by multiple institutes to calculate COVID-19 mortality in India. Yin et al. proposed a modified SEIR model to study the transmission dynamics during the first wave and estimate undetected cases. Selvamuthu et al. employed a SEIRD model to estimate the mortality rate and predict the severity of the situation during the second wave. Sampath and Bose modified the SEIR model equations to account for factors like lockdowns and fit the model to daily infection data in India. Kishore et al. used a generalized SEIR model to predict the spread patterns of COVID-19 in India, including the number of active, recovered, death, and total cases. Therefore, at least four institutes used the SEIR model for calculating COVID-19 mortality in India.
Islanding using wavelet transform
5 answers
Islanding detection using wavelet transform is a commonly used method in distributed generation (DG) systems. Several papers propose different approaches to detect islanding using wavelet transform combined with machine learning techniques. Spötl and Yilmaz & Bayrak present methods that use wavelet transform and artificial neural networks (ANN) for islanding detection. Another paper by Ajith & Shereef proposes a method that uses wavelet transform decomposition and K-Nearest Neighbor (KNN) classification for islanding detection. These methods aim to reduce the non-detection zone (NDZ) and improve the detection time for islanding events. The use of wavelet transform allows for the extraction of detailed coefficients that can capture transient variations during islanding. By combining wavelet transform with machine learning techniques, these methods provide effective islanding detection in DG systems.

What is body temperture?
3 answers
Body temperature refers to the measurement of the heat generated by the human body. It is an important indicator of health and can be used to monitor changes in the body's condition. Various methods and devices have been developed to measure body temperature accurately and conveniently. One approach involves using a body temperature measuring probe that includes a temperature sensor and a heating assembly. The probe is preheated to a preset temperature range, and then the heating assembly is separated from the temperature sensor to allow for a thermal equilibrium process and obtain precise body temperature measurement data. Another method involves using a body temperature monitor that consists of a body temperature monitoring terminal and a main machine. The terminal is fixed at one armpit of the human body, and body temperature data are transmitted to the main machine in real-time through Bluetooth for monitoring. Additionally, a body temperature measuring apparatus can convert a voice output signal into electricity, detect infrared energy from the user's skin surface, and estimate the user's body temperature based on the surface temperature variation and other factors. Another device includes multiple sensor units for measuring body temperature and a control unit for transmitting temperature data wirelessly to a terminal. Furthermore, a body temperature measurement device with a flexible base strap, adhesive temperature sensor piece, wireless communication unit, and power supply unit allows for comfortable and convenient measurement of body temperature, especially in infants.
What policies are in place for refugees from occupied Kashmir in Azad Kashmir?
5 answers
Refugees from occupied Kashmir in Azad Kashmir are governed by certain policies. The legal status of residents of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) is indirectly accepted as citizens of Pakistan, while this regulation does not apply to the residents of Gilgit-Baltistan (GB). The territories of AJK and GB are ruled through the Ministry of Kashmir Affairs and Northern Areas (MKANA). However, the constitutional structure of AJK authorities gives the upper hand to decision makers in Islamabad, treating AJK as a temporary solution and leaving the legal status of the territories yet to be determined. The policies implemented by Pakistan in AJK and GB aim to exercise strict control over the social and political rights and liberties of the local people, contributing to their institutionalized marginalization. These policies include using the territory of AJK to train Islamic militants for proxy strategies and disregarding the rich multireligious heritage of the region.
