Simulation results on a practical power system demonstrate that the proposed stabilizer is effective in damping low-frequency oscillations as well as improving system dynamic stability and voltage profile.
Simulation and experimental results are presented, showing that the regulator provides very good performance, which is superior to that obtained with a conventional automatic voltage regulator with power system stabilizer.
This is in contrast to the case with conventional automatic voltage regulator and power system stabilizer where performance varies widely with the operating situation and can even cause system instability.
The model allows for a choice of appropriate voltage stabilizers based on theoretical calculations only and can help to facilitate any experimental study for choosing appropriate voltage stabilizer additives.
This power system stabilizer application overcomes an unusual combination of constraints which would otherwise severely limit the damping influence obtainable from a conventional stabilizer system.
Results of the experimental studies show that the proposed adaptive stabilizer outperforms the conventional stabilizer.
The efficiency of the best new voltage stabilizer presented in this paper will exceed the ones previously published significantly.
The superior performance of this stabilizer in comparison to the conventional fixed gain stabilizer proves the efficacy of this new approach.
