For a range of top-up volumes and rates, it is shown that tank performance is highly dependent on demand, and comparatively weakly dependent on tank size.
The code can be used to give a preliminary evaluation of tank performance for design purposes. Copyright © 2012 by ASME
This would permit a realistic prediction of the influence of tank geometry on process performance.
A new approach for tank sizing is proposed, which does not require explicit consideration of some of the operational constraints, such as the limits on maximum and minimum tank levels.
It is proposed that multi-dimensional transport modeling, when coupled with full-scale and physical test work, can be used to conclusively determine geometric factors which determine tank performance.
The procedure is not possible or highly difficult using a physical towing tank suggesting a potential of using the computational towing tank to aid the design process.

Our Kalman filter approach allows us to go beyond traffic matrix estimation in that our single system can also carry out traffic prediction and yield confidence bounds on the estimates, the predictions and the residual error processes.
