Their both-ways-at-once currents may earn SQUIDs a starring role in the processors of quantum computers, as they should be easier to manipulate than the atoms, molecules, and photons that have been used so far.
Careful literature reassessment suggests several of these features are common to loliginids, and to some extent to other squids.
General aspects of behavior and body patterning were species-specific and were useful indices of the squids' condition.
The results indicate that, in fact, these neurons in the lobster ventral nerve cord have corresponding counterparts in many other mandibulate taxa.
No readily apparent character identifies all ammoniacal squids as belonging to a single lineage, although 5 families of tissue ammoniacal squids appear to be monophyletic.
The results indicated that N. sloanii, similar to other ommastrephid squids, foraged primarily in the mesopelagic layers.
It is likely that the life cycle lasts c. 1 yr, but immature squids with ages >330-340 d suggest that a part ofM.

• The estimated growth rates suggest a reduced pace of life in deep-sea squids.
Our data are in agreement with an extension of the previously proposed model, based on numerical simulations of the current distribution in the investigated SQUIDs.
