TL;DR: In this article, the authors report the results of a study designed to identify those communication skills being used by college graduates who have been in a business organization for five years or less.
Abstract: While there exists a great deal of information regarding the importance of oral communication in the business organization, little has been written in recent years to identify those communication skills that are important for different organizational positions. This article reports the results of a study designed to identify those communication skills being used by college graduates who have been in a business organization for five years or less. This information can be used by educators in speech communication to deal with subject matter relevancy issues and provide some guidance for student career planning and training.

TL;DR: In this article, a study was undertaken to obtain feedback from former students of business communication classes, which indicated that these respondents write regularly on the job (79 percent); they believe that ability to write well is important to success (89 percent); and they believe written communication should be taught because little writing is required in other courses, and well-written communication may be the only avenue to recognition for a new employee.
Abstract: This study was undertaken to obtain feedback from former students of business communication. Above-average achievers in business communica tion classes in three institutions between 1959 and the present were sent questionnaires. Returns indicated that these respondents write regularly on the job (79 percent); they believe that ability to write well is important to success (89 percent); and they believe written communication should be taught because little writing is required in other courses, and well-written communication may be the only avenue to recognition for a new employee.

TL;DR: This article showed that commonly accepted principles of American written business communication such as "reader concern", "positive emphasis", and "conversational tone" have cross-cultural validity in communicating with a group of Mexican college students.
Abstract: The research presented here shows that commonly accepted principles of American written business communication such as "reader concern," "positive emphasis, "and "conversational tone" have cross-cultural validity in communicating with a group of Mexican college students. These stu dents read letters from two fictitious Mexican life insurance companies— one company's letters structured with American principles of written busi ness communication, the other's without. Use of the semantic differential showed that the Mexican students formed favorable mental images of the company using "accepted principles" and negative images of the company not using them. Additional research is suggested for improving written business communication between the United States and other countries and cultures.

Abstract: graduates as they move into the work force, such contact is needed. To add to the body of knowledge about the business communication demands placed upon graduates, a five-year study was recommended by the 1973 Undergraduate Studies Committee of the American Business Communication Association. The Board of Directors of the Association approved the recommendation and established an ad hoc committee to complete the initial survey in 19?4.1 The survey was conducted to determine how 1974 graduating business seniors in the United States evaluated the course content, classroom procedures, instructional quality, and course quality for their first courses in business communication. The findings of the research were reported to the Association at the 1974 convention. The recommendation that the 1975 followup survey be undertaken

Abstract: In this article the author provides his opinion on why he believes the study of management is dead. He believes that the field has become to concerned with what he calls trivia and is no longer concerned with what is actually taking place in the real world. He argues that there has been a communication failure and that the pressure universities place on publishing has watered down the quality of work. He closes by saying that management failed because it was not focused on the issues of the day.

Abstract: Members of ABCA and other experts in business communication may disa gree with Weeks's assessment of "current issues" in this paper presented to our Japanese colleagues at the annual meeting of the Japan Business Eng lish Association in Tokyo, October 18, 1975. There were other matters which could have been discussed, had it not been for the limitations of time. Basic, however, to good business writing nationally and internation ally is solving problems of the best psychological approach to readers, organization, writing style, and English usage.

TL;DR: In this article, a look at Regional Communication, a la cajun style where the people work and play hard, is presented, with a special emphasis on those techniques needed most in business.
Abstract: 1. Keep in mind that although the written technique, via letters and reports, is lengthy, costly, and most difficult, it still represents a preferred technique in business and industry. 2. Give the students, therefore, an understanding of the techniques that are used in communicating with special emphasis on those techniques needed most in business. 3. Relate to the students why there are difficulties in communicating so that they may develop an awareness to the problem (communication theory). I am suggesting, therefore, that we develop a more rational and logical approach by incorporating and integrating communications theory with what we have been doing. After all, communications as a process can be universally applied. It doesn’t matter what region you belong to. When communications is viewed as a process you can justify, e.g., why communications takes place even when the wrong structure is used. It also helps explain why adaptation may force us sometimes to abandon structure in order to express meaning. Well, what I have attempted to share with you this morning : First of all, a look at Regional Communication, a la cajun style where the people work and play hard. Yes, a very unique part of the world. But, don’t you agree with me that there is uniqueness in all parts of the world? No two places are alike. I personally have loved my identification. It wasn’t difficult. After all, I am from South-Central Louisiana.
