TL;DR: An inlet orifice structure (10) and impeller assembly (20) for a centrifugal flow fan is described in this paper. Butler et al. describe a fan with 13 impeller blades nonuniformly spaced around a hub plate (202).
Abstract: An inlet orifice structure (10) and impeller assembly (20) for a centrifugal flow fan. The inlet orifice (10) has an elliptical cross section in a plane passing through the axis of rotation of the fan. The impeller (20) is shrouded and also has a similarly elliptical cross section. The impeller (20) is sized so that, when assembled together, the shroud overlaps and rotates around the stationary inlet orifice. In a preferred embodiment, there are 13 impeller blades (203) nonuniformly spaced around a hub plate (202). A particular blade spacing is disclosed and claimed. The inner surface of the hub plate (202) is arcuately curved to guide the air flow through the fan from its entering axial direction to its radial exiting direction. The contour of the hub plate (202) allows for the fan drive motor to be partially recessed into the plate.

Abstract: A centrifugal blower is provided with a casing which defines a spiral duct and a centrifugal fan which is rotationally provided within the casing. The centrifugal fan has a bottom plate and a plurality of blades which are equally spaced along the periphery of the bottom plate. The plurality of blades extends parallel to the rotational axis. The duct is arranged to reduce the size of a low velocity air flow zone which is generated in an upper radially outer region in the spiral duct. The low velocity air flow zone, which appears in an upper radially outer region in the air duct, is reduced to reduce surging in the blower.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors proposed a method to suppress air flow which flows from a casing side toward a space part sectioned between a centrifugal fan and a fixed fan so as to prevent reduction of a suction property by arranging a means for suppressing flow of air between the plate of the centrifugal fans and a stationary member consisting of the fixed fan or the casing.
Abstract: PURPOSE: To suppress air flow which flows from a casing side toward a space part sectioned between a centrifugal fan and a fixed fan so as to prevent reduction of a suction property by arranging a means for suppressing flow of air between the plate of the centrifugal fan and a stationary member consisting of the fixed fan or the casing. CONSTITUTION: When an electric blower A is driven, air sucked from an intake port 22a flows out from a discharge hole 12b outward passing through the intake opening 41 of a fan cover 40 by rotation of a centrifugal fan 21 after air flows into a casing 14 while it is guided by the guide wall 31 of a fixed fan 30. At this time, air in a space part S which is sectioned between the 2 plate 23 back surface of the centrifugal fan 21 and the fixed fan 30 flows to an outer peripheral side, and it becomes a low pressure condition. Air in the casing 14 becomes a high pressure condition, and it flows through the clearance of a ball bearing 16. In this case, flow of air in the space part S is suppressed by a plurality of annular projections 34a to 34c. It is thus possible to prevent reduction of suction property caused by air flow which flows from the back surface side of the fixed fan 30 passing through the space part S. COPYRIGHT: (C)1996,JPO

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors describe a damper control system for a centrifugal fan with a rotatable shaft located outside of a fan housing where rotation of the control shaft actuates a plurality of shafts and rods to move an annular damper located within the housing into an open position away from the centrifugal fans blades and to a closed position coaxially over the fan blades thus restricting the flow of air through the fan.
Abstract: A centrifugal fan having a damper control system located away from the air flow path is disclosed. The control system includes a rotatable shaft located outside of a fan housing wherein rotation of the control shaft actuates a plurality of shafts and rods to move an annular damper located within the housing into an open position away from the centrifugal fan blades and to a closed position coaxially over the fan blades thus substantially restricting the flow of air through the centrifugal fan. The dampers are mounted for translation on two support rods located on opposite sides of the centrifugal fan. The dampers ride on a support system including a plurality of ball bearings that are in tangential contact with the support rods thus providing high-pressure contact surfaces between the bearings and the support shafts which act to keep the path of travel of the bearings on the rods free of debris so that the dampers have unobstructed motion between the open and closed positions.

TL;DR: In this article, a plurality of vents 40 are made between the side face 4a on the delivery side of an axial fan 5 and the side faces 4b on the labyrinth packing 20 side while penetrating the fan boss 4 protruding from the shaft 3 of a rotor 1.
Abstract: PURPOSE:To prevent the outer air containing harmful matters or the lubricant of bearing from intruding into a machine by making a vent through the boss of an axial fan and passing a part of cooling air, delivered from the axial fan, through the vent thereby boosting the pressure of the cooling air through the centrifugal fan action before it is fed to the vestibule of fan. CONSTITUTION:A plurality of vents 40 are made between the side face 4a on the delivery side of an axial fan 5 and the side face 4b on the labyrinth packing 20 side while penetrating the fan boss 4 protruding from the shaft 3 of a rotor 1. The distance of an opening 40b made in the side face 4b from the axis of rotor shaft 3 is set longer than the distance of an opening 40a made in the side face 4a from the axis of the rotor shaft 3 so that an inclination is provided thus directing the vent 40 rearward with respect to the rotational direction. Consequently, the pressure of cooling air on the delivery side of the axial fan 5 is boosted through the centrifugal fan action and then the cooling air flows into the vestibule 23 of fan thus providing a positive pressure therein.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To reduce a pressure loss and to suppress the generation of noise by perpendicularly crossing a centrifugal fan with a diffusing direction of a diffused wind at its rotary shaft axis and so disposing it that its diffusing side is opposed to an air outlet CONSTITUTION:An exhaust centrifugal fan 10 and an air supply centrifugal fan 11 are perpendicularly crossed at rotary shaft axes L with diffusing directions X, Y of diffused winds Diffusing sides of the fans 10, 11 are so disposed as to be opposed to air outlets 7, 6 Accordingly, diffused winds in centrifugal directions of the fans 10, 11 are not bent perpendicularly as prior art, and hence pressure losses can be decreased In order to supplement the losses, it is not necessary to increase, for example, numbers of revolutions of the fans 10, 11 As a result, generation of noise can be suppressed Particularly, since the outlets 7, 6 of the centrifugal directions of the fans 10, 11 are opened within a duct joint 15, a silencing effect is provided to further reduce the generation of the noise
