TL;DR: The T Synoptic as mentioned in this paper is a review of fluidics technology, focusing on nonaerospace engineering managers who are unfamiliar with fluidic systems and their potential applicability, and drawn heavily upon R&D work performed or sponsored by NASA.
Abstract: T Synoptic (taken from Ref. 1) is a state-of-the-art review of fluidics technology. It emphasizes systems applications rather than theory or design. It is directed towards the nonaerospace engineering manager who is unfamiliar with fluidic systems and their potential applicability. The Synoptic draws heavily upon R & D work performed or sponsored by NASA, and therefore serves as a compilation of NASA's fluidics efforts.

Abstract: A state-of-the art review of fluidic technology is presented. It is oriented towards systems applications rather than theory or design. It draws heavily upon work performed or sponsored by NASA in support of the space program and aeronautical research and development (R&D). Applications are emphasized in this survey because it is hoped that the examples described and the criteria presented for evaluating the suitability of fluidics to new applications will be of value to potential users of fluidic systems. This survey of the fluidics industry suggests some of the means whereby a company may use a fluidic system effectively either to manufacture a product or as part of the end product.

TL;DR: In this paper, a linear piston type, fluid damped, adaptive shock absorber for an aircraft landing gear strut having an automatically adjustable orifice through the piston is controlled by a fluidic vortex valve which utilizes small control jets of high pressure fluid injected tangentially into a circular chamber.
Abstract: A linear piston type, fluid damped, adaptive shock absorber for an aircraft landing gear strut having an automatically adjustable orifice through the piston. The impedance to the flow of damping fluid through the orifice is controlled by a fluidic vortex valve which utilizes small control jets of high pressure fluid injected tangentially into a circular chamber through which the main flow of hydraulic damping fluid passes. The force of fluid injected through the tangential control jets determines the strength of the swirling action of the main damping fluid flow and thereby controls the impedance to the main fluid flow through the vortex valve and the fluid chamber. The fluid pressure to the tangential control jets is automatically controlled by a servo valve which is, in turn, controlled by an automatic sensing system that determines the aircraft''s vertical acceleration.

TL;DR: In this article, a fluidic generator utilizing a novel fluid intake system for achieving increased power output at low pressures is presented, where the resonating cavity of the generator is provided at its fluid intake end with a mechanical member for separating and converging fluid.
Abstract: A fluidic generator utilizing a novel fluid intake system for achieving increased power output at low pressures. The resonating cavity of the fluidic generator is provided at its fluid intake end with a mechanical member for separating and converging fluid. The cavity is adjacent an intake orifice with the member being located inside the orifice for separating fluid flowing out of the orifice. The fluid is converged at the entrance to the cavity and ultimately fills and empties the cavity to vibrate a diaphragm at resonance for generating electrical or mechanical output signals.

Abstract: Some pure fluid digital flowmeters are described and factors determining their accuracy are discussed. One meter under development is described in detail and performance characteristics are given. A new type of vortex flow controller is also described and shown to have advantages in performance and geometry over existing devices. Further improvements in performance and new devices which ease the control and interface problem are discussed. Flow diverters are also described and some characteristics are presented.

TL;DR: A fluidics proximity sensing device comprises a transmitter for directing a pressure fluid jet to impinge upon an object to be sensed, and a receiver including a receiver orifice leading to a receiver passage in which fluid moves in response to the pressure at said orifice.
Abstract: A fluidics proximity sensing device comprises a transmitter for directing a pressure fluid jet to impinge upon an object to be sensed, and a receiver including a receiver orifice leading to a receiver passage in which fluid moves in response to the pressure at said orifice, a sensing fluid passage intersecting said receiver passage so that a sensing fluid flowing in the sensing fluid passage traverses the receiver passage and is thus disturbed by fluid movement in the latter. By appropriate choice of passage dimensions and fluid pressures the device may be adapted to provide long-range sensing of objects, an output signal that is an analogue of the distance of a sensed object from the device, or an output signal that changes substantially in response to small changes in the proximity of a sensed object.

TL;DR: In this article, a reversible hydraulic machine operating as a pump or a motor in both directions of rotation can be adjusted to different displacement volumes by fluidic actuating means controlled by an output control signal of an additive control amplifier.
Abstract: A regulating apparatus for a reversible hydraulic machine operating as pump or hydraulic motor in both directions of rotation. The machine can be adjusted to different displacement volumes by fluidic actuating means controlled by an output control signal of an additive control amplifier which compares a first control signal representing the actual displaced volume with a second control signal representing the desired displaced volume. The second control signal is generated in a fluidic control device which includes a fluidic limiting device limiting the second control signal, and being controlled by a first fluidic circuit responsive to the product of the actual and desired volume and fluid pressure of the machine, and by a second fluidic circuit responsive to the highest actual fluid pressure of the machine.

Abstract: A fluidic system for evaluating the physical characteristics of an article within upper and lower limits. The system includes a fixture in which the article to be measured is placed, a source of fluid pressure which delivers fluid to the fixture, a plurality of fluidic amplifiers, a pair of interface signal devices and a pair of indicators. Pressure signals resulting from fluid flow past the article in the fixture are conducted to the signal devices which emit control signals to actuate the fluidic amplifiers. The output of two of the fluidic amplifiers are in fluid communication with the indicators and function to selectively actuate the indicators in response to the fluid pressure in the fixture and the signals emitted by the signal device.
