TL;DR: In this paper, a manually operable actuator is connected to the lower guard retracting linkage by a releasable mechanism, whereby spring means will automatically swing the lower-guard to its closed position upon removal of the saw from the work irrespective of the position of the actuator.
Abstract: A manually operable actuator is connected to the lower guard retracting linkage by a releasable mechanism. Movement of the actuator causes swinging movement of the lower guard to its open position. Continued swinging movement of the lower guard to its open position as a result of being engaged by the work operates the releasable mechanism to disconnect the actuator from the lower guard, whereby spring means will automatically swing the lower guard to its closed position upon removal of the saw from the work irrespective of the position of the actuator. Return movement of the actuator to its closed position resets the releasable mechanism.

TL;DR: In this article, a card with magnetizable rods in it instead of the watchman's clock is used to verify the correctness of a security tour made by a security guard, and the card is inserted into a reporting station where the magnetic card is checked.
Abstract: A replacement for the watchman''s clock and key system employed by security guards to verify that security tours are properly made. In this new system, the guard carries a card with magnetizable rods in it instead of the watchman''s clock. He then proceeds to a number of checking stations along the route of his security tour where, instead of the key which is inserted into the watchman''s clock, there are a number of boxes into which the magnetizable card is inserted. These boxes contain magnets which may or may not effect the magnetization of the bars in the card. When the tour is completed the guard inserts the card into a reporting station where the magnetic card is checked. If the security tour has been made properly the right rods will be magnetized in a particular manner by the magnets in the boxes and the checking station will send a signal to a central recording station to indicate completion of a properly executed tour. If the tour was not properly made and the proper bars magnetized, no such signal is sent to the recording station and the guard is told so. The guard must then report into the central location or repeat the round.

TL;DR: In this article, a special destructable or non-destructable safety pin is employed to mechanically couple a sensitized tag to an item to be protected against shoplifting, and the tag is rapidly and easily applied strictly by hand to the protected garment by means of the special safety pin which upon being closed cannot be opened except by special devices at the cashier's station.
Abstract: A special destructable or non-destructable safety pin is employed to mechanically couple a sensitized tag to an item to be protected against shoplifting. If a shoplifter carries the protected item through an exit area with the sensitized tag on the item, an alarm device will alert store personnel to apprehend or photograph the shoplifter. A sensitized tag is rapidly and easily applied strictly by hand to the protected garment by means of the special safety pin which upon being closed annot be opened except by special devices at the cashier''s station. Once the safety pin is closed, it cannot be opened by a shoplifter without cutting the pin portion which is made difficult, at least for the average shoplifter, because the pin portion is case hardened by well-known techniques; also shoplifters, particularly a large number of females, would be reluctant to use wire cutters, carry them about and be caught with them. Additionally, the special safety pin may be employed to attach ordinary price tags to the goods and would thwart price tag switching.
