TL;DR: In this paper, the authors propose an inexpensive safety device for a power tool having a protective guard over a cutting blade which prevents use of the power tool when the guard is not in place.
Abstract: A highly reliable and inexpensive safety device for a power tool having a protective guard over a cutting blade which prevents use of the power tool when the protective guard is not in place. The safety device includes a proximity detector detecting a distance between the guard and a power tool table top and an interlock system that prevents operation of the power tool when a distance less than a predetermined relative proximity is not detected. In the case of a power table saw a pair of magnets are secured to the guard and a pair of reed switches are mounted beneath the table top to be closed when the guard is in place. The interlock system responds to the reed switches by allowing the saw to be started when the switches are both closed and preventing startup when they are not. A key activated bypass circuit allows the saw motor to be started when the guard is not present.

TL;DR: In this paper, a personal security system including features for monitoring guard tours and other surveillance by security personnel is described, where the transmitters are actuated to emit radio frequency signals including a class code that identifies first and second sets of transmitters.
Abstract: A personal security system including features for monitoring guard tours and other surveillance by security personnel. The security system includes a plurality of hand-portable transmitters, a plurality of fixed receivers and a control station. The transmitters are actuated to emit radio frequency signals including a class code that identifies first and second sets of the transmitters. The first set is assigned to security personnel and the second set to system subscribers. The receivers decode the signals from the transmitters and provide an output representing the receiver and the received class code. The control station identifies the location of the transmission using information from the receiver output, and records the time of the transmission. If the class code represents a security-assigned transmitter, the control station reports the information as a security function, such as a guard tour. If the class code represents a subscriber, the control station initiates actions appropriate for a subscriber transmission.

TL;DR: In this paper, a portable, circular saw is described, which includes an arcuate outer guard fixedly mounted about one side of the blade, and an inner guard having a central opening concentric of the axis of rotation.
Abstract: A portable, circular saw is disclosed. It includes a saw blade selectively rotatable about an axis of rotation to a define a working plane normal to such axis of rotation. The saw also includes an arcuate outer guard fixedly mounted about one side of the blade, and an inner guard having a central opening concentric of the axis of rotation. The purpose of the central opening is to permit the inner guard to be rotatably mounted about an opposite side of the blade. Also attached to the inner guard is a bulbous member that includes a leading edge that is adjacent to the cutting path of blade vis-a-vis a wooden member. Such wooden member generates a force on the inner guard as the former makes contact therewith and wherein the inner guard undergoes rotation about the axis of rotation. The bulbous member aids in the occurrence of such rotation by the fact that it substantially increases the engaging extent of the inner guard by a factor of at least 2 whereby jamming of rotation of the inner guard is prevented irrespective of position of the wooden member with respect to the inner guard.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors proposed a warning device for the distance between vehicles preventing erroneous warning due to a guard rail along a curved road and on an interrupting vehicle, where the guard rail is judged to be an object which changes from a stopped object to a moving one (travelling vehicle).
Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide a warning device for the distance between vehicles preventing erroneous warning due to a guard rail along curved road and on interrupting vehicle. CONSTITUTION:A guard rail along a curved road is judged to be an object which changes from a stopped object to a moving one (travelling vehicle). If it is treated as a moving object just after the change, an erroneous warning can be issued by a slight approach to the guard rail. In the case of interruption of a large vehicle, the side is detected and erroneous warning can be issued changing from an unidentified object to the moving one. But, by the processing of the steps 444 and 446, in a prescribed waiting time, it is judged to be a guard rail or an interrupting vehicle and no warning processing is performed. When it is really 9 curve of guard rail or an interrupting vehicle, the normal recognition is get back during the waiting time and the erroneous warning can be prevented.
