TL;DR: In this article, a drive sled is mounted on the computer housing and a stationary carrier tray is secured to the drive sled by a lever-actuated pinion gear engaged on the top of the carrier tray and a torsion spring is used to bias the pinion.
Abstract: A device (10) for installing and removing a removable computer component, such as a data storage drive or computer card, into or out of a computer housing. The device features a drive sled (12) to which the data storage drive is mounted. A stationary carrier tray (30) is secured to the computer housing. Interlocking angled tracks (38) on the drive sled and the carrier tray secure the two structures together. To promote easy coupling of the drive's electrical interface connectors, the front end of the drive sled has a floating guide plate (22) with forward-projecting locating pins (26), which pins are used to align the electrical connectors held by the floating guide plate. A rack (32) and pinion mechanism (40) is provided. The rack is disposed on the top of the carrier tray while the pinion is located on the underside of the drive sled. As the drive sled slides onto the carrier tray, the lever-actuated pinion gear engages the rack and consequently displaces the drive sled relative to the stationary carrier tray. A torsion spring (44) may be used to bias the pinion. The carrier tray also features a raised wedge (36) that latches the lever at one extreme position when the drive sled is in its forward-most position to lock the data storage drive inside the computer housing.

TL;DR: The approach developed in this paper enables the determi-nation of deviations of a real surface from the known theoreticalsurface and is less effective as compared to computerizeddetermination of surface deviations and corrections of machine-tool settings.
Abstract: The deviations of a gear's real tooth surface from the theoretical surface are determined by coordinate measurements at the grid of the surface. A method was developed to transform the deviations from Cartesian coordinates to those along the normal at the measurement locations. Equations are derived that relate the first order deviations with the adjustment to the manufacturing machine-tool settings. The deviations of the entire surface are minimized. The minimization is achieved by application of the least-square method for an overdetermined system of linear equations. The proposed method is illustrated with a numerical example for hypoid gear and pinion.

Abstract: A rotary decorating machine for bottles having an alignment structure formed adjacent their bottom periphery, wherein the machine has at least one decorating station. A rotating table is provided with a plurality of independently rotatable bottle receiving cups spaced from one another adjacent the outer periphery of the table. The rotating table is driven by a first motor, and the bottle receiving cups are independently rotatable by pinion gears attached thereto for enabling planetary rotation of the bottles relative to the rotating table. A lower gear is provided with a second drive motor for rotation independent of the rotating table, and the pinion gears attached to individual bottle receiving cups are intermeshed with that gear. Rotation of the lower gear independently effects the rotation speed and direction of the bottle receiving cups independent of the planetary rotation resulting from movement of the rotating table. A control device is further provided for implementing instructions to the second drive motor to effectively control the rotation of the bottle receiving cup relative to the rotation of the rotating table during labeling operations.

Abstract: An internally meshing planetary gear structure is the type having a first and second supporting blocks (104, 105). The supporting blocks (104, 105) are rigidly connected to each other by carrier pins (150) passing through inserting-fit holes (128a, 128b) formed on externally toothed gears (118a, 118b). Also, the end surfaces of the carrier pins (150) are exposed on a counter-member mounting surface (104a) of the first supporting block positioned on the counter-member side, and thus screw holes (156) for screwing counter-member fixing bolts (155) are formed on the end surfaces. With this arrangement, it is possible to enlarge the actual usable area of a counter-member mounting surface of the first supporting block and hence to increase the number of counter-member fixing bolts.

TL;DR: In this paper, a spray pattern for large diameter open gearing is improved by providing a pressure relief valve remote from the feed points of the header to prevent air turbulence generated by movement of the gear teeth.
Abstract: A lubricator for large diameter open gearing utilizes a header having a series of orifices which direct streams of oil onto a deflector plate which produces a spray directed at the teeth of a drive pinion in close proximity to the point of first engagement on the approach side of the pitch point. Air turbulence generated by movement of the gear teeth is prevented from affecting the spray pattern by utilizing a collector for excess lubricant as a baffle and by utilizing the deflector plate to block the movement of air. Uniformity of spray pattern from the orifices is enhanced by providing a pressure relief valve remote from the feed points of the header.

TL;DR: The non-circular front chain wheel for crank gear is comprised of a crank gear wheel, allowing to increase progressively the cycling torque from the dead point up to the point where the extension of the leg allows to create the maximum effort as discussed by the authors.
Abstract: The non-circular front chain wheel for crank gear is comprised of a crank gear wheel (1) allowing to increase progressively the cycling torque from the dead point up to the point where the extension of the leg allows to create the maximum effort, due to a progressive variation of the primitive radius of the toothing between these two points, followed by a rapid decrease to the next dead point. The principle is that the force to be provided is proportional to the muscular force that the user may provide. It essentially concerns the cycle industry but may also find applications in other fields, for example physical exercisers for body-building or reeducation, and in general all apparatuses utilizing the cycling motion and a chain or belt transmission system between the front wheel or wheels of the crank gear and one or a plurality of pinions actuating the device to be driven.

TL;DR: In this paper, an improved and novel method for controlling the speed of a mechanical apparatus in relation to a reference parameter is presented, which utilizes feedback torque to control the speed and sequence of a fastening tool.
Abstract: An improved and novel method for controlling the speed of a mechanical apparatus in relation to a reference parameter. The reference parameter can be torque, displacement or similarly measurable parameters. A preferred implementation of the improved and novel method is used for tightening fasteners which utilizes feedback torque to control the speed and sequence of a fastening tool. This feedback torque is constantly monitored to allow continuous adjustment of the speed of the fastening tool and thereby control the torque applied to the fastener. The method is implemented on a fastening tool used to tighten a retainer nut on a pinion gear shaft supported by bearings in a differential housing. The speed of a fastening tool is continuously monitored and changed in response to a rotational torque measurement taken from the pinion gear shaft and bearing assembly. As the rotational torque value of the pinion gear shaft and bearing assembly approaches a final preselected value the speed of the fastening tool is slowed to ensure the retainer nut is not over tightened.

Abstract: A power-driven fully automatic dental flossing device has an elongate housing configuration with an extending thin housing arm forked at the front end, and an enlarged housing handle for containing a pair of reels (11, 17) with dental floss (10) on them, a dividing gear system, dental floss operating and winding switches (7), and a powered motor (40) with batteries and/or a transformer. The dental floss (10) across two tines of the forked arm is wound on the two reels, one of which supplies fresh dental floss, the other stores the floss as it is no longer usable. The dental floss (10) can be automatically reciprocated between the tines and teeth by pulling an operating switch (7) backward with a single user's finger, and also can be manipulated manually whenever it is necessary by pushing the same operating switch forward. On the other hand, the dental floss can be continuously and automatically wound backward or forward with one button touch (5) to provide a fresh section of floss, or rewinding it back at any time, even when the dental floss is still between teeth. The pair of reels (11, 17) winding the dental floss are driven by the dividing gear system which comprises two pinions (27, 28) installed on two reel shafts (25, 26), separately, and a main dividing gear (23) with only partial circle gear teeth (as an exemplary arrangement shown in the attached drawing, 180° circumference of the main gear has gear teeth). When rotating a full cycle, the main gear has to drive each one of pinions a half of said cycle, respectively, therefore both reels, rotating together with the two pinions, will in turn be a primary driving reel to wind the dental floss onto itself and a following reel to release the dental floss off itself, so that the dental floss can automatically complete reciprocating motion to achieve the object of cleaning teeth. The main gear (23) can also be slid by a yoke of the winding switch (5) to an upper or lower position where only one pinion could be driven by the main gear, therefore the dental floss (10) will be continuously wound only in one direction at a time, and the above-mentioned function of providing or rewinding dental floss can be automatically accomplished.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors proposed a single-shaft reduction gear whose axial direction size can be shortened to an extent where the carrier and the connecting shaft have occupied conventionally, and the loading capacity of vehicles can be improved.
Abstract: PURPOSE: To provide a single-shaft type electric automobile reduction gear whose axial direction size can be shortened. CONSTITUTION: Since the pinion gear shaft 48 of a planetary gear type differential gear 18 is directly supported by the outer race 50L of a left side first uniform speed joint, a conventional carrier for supporting the pinion gear shaft 48 is no more necessary, thereby, the outer race 50L serves also as the carrier for supporting the pinion gear shaft 48. Accordingly, in the conventional automatic automobile reduction gear, the spline fitting between a boss on the carrier and a connecting shaft of the uniform speed joint is not needed, so that the axial direction size WL can be shortened to an extent where the carrier and the connecting shaft have occupied conventionally, and the loading capacity of vehicles can be improved. TL;DR: In this paper, a two-stage planetary gear transmission with a first-stage and a second-stage is presented, where the first-and second-stages are integrally connected with each other.
Abstract: A two-stage planetary gear transmission having a first-stage planetary gear transmission and a second-stage planetary gear transmission is disclosed, wherein the carrier of the second-stage planetary gear transmission comprises first and second carrier parts integrally connected with each other. A hollow pinion shaft formed thereon with the sun gear of the second stage is rotationally supported on the first carrier part via a deep-channel ball bearing in a cantilevered condition. A carrier of the first stage for supporting planetary gears of the first stage is integrally formed on the end of the hollow pinion shaft of the second stage. A lubricant layer of about 15 μm to about 20 μm in width is formed between an inner race member of a planetary bearing and a planetary shaft for each of the planetary gears of the second stage. In addition, the gear ratio u1 of the first-stage planetary gear transmission is larger than the gear ratio u2 of the second-stage planetary gear transmission, and which is equal to or larger than about 5. According to the present invention, misalignment or improper meshing of the gears of the first stage can be adjusted by movement of the cantilevered pinion shaft of the second stage. Improper meshing of the planetary gears of the second stage can be adjusted by the lubricant layer. In addition, the noise from the planetary gear transmission can be reduced by setting the the gear ratios of the first and second stage as mentioned above.
