Abstract: Stirling cycle heat engine adapted for use as space heating and/or air conditioners. One embodiment features a Stirling engine prime mover providing a hybrid Stirling machine. Another embodiment utilizes an electric drive motor as a prime mover and a final embodiment is an open drive Stirling thermal engine particularly adapted for automotive belt driven applications. Enhancements in performance are provided by using pressure ratios significantly lower than that ordinarily provided for Stirling cycle engines. Decreases in pressure ratios are provided by intentionally adding dead volume to the cycle and particularly adding this dead volume strategically in the regenerator of the device which has been found to provide performance benefits. The systems according to this invention can be used either as space heaters or air conditioners by appropriately directing heat absorbed and rejected from the heat exchangers of the device to the approrpriate environment.

A constantly variable transmission apparatus and a differential power transmission are cooperatively connected to the engine to provide substantially constant speed operation of the generator.

Abstract: The present invention provides a method and apparatus for eliminating at least a portion of the energy losses in a well pumping system which are due to "regeneration" (i.e. those periods during the pumping cycle in which the pumping system experiences negative net torque). This is accomplished by positioning a clutch means in the driving connection between the prime mover and the pumping unit of the well pumping system so that the clutch means forms a driving connection between said prime mover and said pumping unit during periods when said pumping unit experiences positive net torque and effectively disengages the driving connection between said prime mover and said pumping unit to allow freewheeling therebetween during periods when said pumping unit experiences negative net torque.

Abstract: An improved integral marine propulsion unit is disclosed that can generate a thrust vector in any of three degrees of motion. The unit utilizes both collective and cyclic propeller blade pitch angle variation to generate these thrust. This unit obviates the need for control surfaces and rudders for motion control of a marine vessel. Additionally, this unit provides flexibility in external propulsor arrangements on a marine hull. The unit integrates the swash plate mechanism and actuators within the central bore of a ring type prime mover.

Abstract: An air-cycle air conditioning system comprises a first turbine disposed in an exhaust passage of a prime mover and driven by the energy of exhaust gases, a first compressor placed in coaxial relation to the first turbine and rotatable in response to the operation of the first turbine so as to intake and compress an air, a second turbine coupled to an outlet end of the first compressor through a first line and rotatable by the energy of a compressed air from the first compressor so as to expand and cool the compressed air, a first heat exchanger disposed in the first line and effecting heat exchange between the compressed air and an outside air, a second heat exchanger connected to the second turbine through a second line and effecting heat exchange between the air supplied from the second turbine and an air supplied from a fan, a second compressor placed in coaxial relation to the second turbine and rotatable in response to the operation of the second turbine so as to intake and compress an air, an auxiliary burner capable of burning the air supplied from the second compressor and feeding the resultant exhaust gases to the first turbine, a load sensor for detecting load condition of the prime mover, and a controller for permitting the auxiliary burner to feed the exhaust gases to the first turbine when the load sensor detects that the prime mover runs on low load.

Abstract: A stepless hydrostatic mechanical transmission between a prime mover and a power output train in which an epicyclic differential is incorporated in the transmission and includes at least four shafts, a large and a small sun wheel, two planet wheels in mesh with the sun wheels, a web supporting the planet wheels and an annulus. Two main shafts constituting input and output shafts are connected with respectively different shafts of the epicyclic differential. Two hydrostatic machines are connected to the epicyclic differential such that in at least one working range of the power transmission the hydrostatic machines are adapted to be connected to the epicyclic differential and operated as pumps and motors. The operation of at least one of the hydrostatic machines is changed over by a clutch, when the other hydrostatic machine is stationary and during transition from one working range to another, from connection with the output shaft to the small sun wheel and, during traction operation, from the motor function to the pump function. In the epicyclic differential, the large sun wheel is driven by the input shaft and is located between the small sun wheel and the prime mover.

Abstract: A prime mover revolution speed control system for a hydraulically propelled vehicle controls the revolution speed of a prime mover to optimize vehicle acceleration in a vehicle propelling mode, and to optimize engine output and economy in a working mode. A vehicle equipped with the control system may include a hydraulic pump for discharging hydraulic fluid, the amount of fluid discharged depending on the revolution speed of the prime mover, a hydraulic motor for vehicle propulsion that is driven by hydraulic fluid discharged from the hydraulic pump, and an actuator for performing work that is also driven by hydraulic fluid discharged from the hydraulic pump. The revolution speed of the prime mover may be controlled according to a depression amount of a revolution speed control pedal. When the control system is in the working mode, the revolution speed of the prime mover is controlled in accordance with revolution speed characteristics suitable for a working operation. When the control system is in the vehicle propelling mode, the revolution speed of the engine is controlled in accordance with revolution speed characteristics suitable for a vehicle propelling operation.

Abstract: Adaptive control of a power prime-mover requires effective modeling and identification techniques that have good disturbance rejection properties. Existing methods tend to avoid explicit modeling of input dead-time due to resulting computational complexity. Two different approaches of modeling the diesel power prime-mover are presented. The predictors are derived from the results of two different least-squares estimates of the plant. The derived predictors are compared with each other, and with their respective least-squares models, on the basis of disturbance rejection capability and computational complexity. It is shown by extensive simulation studies that the predictors obtained converge quickly and operate with very small prediction error under severe load disturbances and large speed reference changes. A comparative discussion of the two methods is presented. >

Abstract: The rotary rolling-piston engine including two types of external and internal combustion, can be used as a prime mover. Its basic structure comprises: a rotor in elliptic cylinder, at two sides of the rotor, two symmetrical pits are engaged with two pistons and power output is delivered by a main shaft at the center of the rotor. With no reciprocating mass of connecting rod crankshaft system and valve-actuating mechanism, and no restriction on variable angular-rate movement, the expansion process can be converted directly into rotary movement, and there are two expansion processes for each revolution, so that higher speed and better performance can be achieved. For the external combustion engine, any fuel can be used for indirectly heating the working medium, thus having higher effective efficiency and lower exhaust pollution.

CONSTITUTION:When a wire driver 5 is operated by a prime mover 9, a driving pulley 8 is rotated, a truck 7 is moved to the front part as well and a cutting wire 25 travels by circulation under the necessary tension, so a cutting object 1 is gradually out. When a base vessel 3 is rocked upward, the cutting wire 25 is tightened, the pressure adjusting valves 17, 18 of each air pressure cylinder 13, 14 are opened when the tension thereof reaches the limited set value, a rod 23 is contracted in a pneumatic cylinder 13 of the front part and a cushion pulley 21 is displaced in the head direction as shown by a dashed line as well, simultaneously a rod 24 is stretched in the pneumatic cylinder 14 of the rear part, the cushion pulley 21 is displaced in the head direction as well, simultaneously a cushion pulley 22 is displaced in the reverse direction and the tension of the wire 25 is eased.

Gaps 13a, 13b between the first side stator 11a..., 11b... and the secondary side conductors 12a, 12b of the linear motor 10 is kept constant by guiding rollers 24a..., 24b... pivoted to the shaft pins 23a, 23b of a posture connection device with rolling and touching to the rolling faces 6a, 6b of the prime moving pulley 1. Like this way, the required valve of the important gap of the linear motor drive is accurately kept so that vibration and noise reduction can be achieved without the floating rotation.

And the line pressure D during the shifting operation of the automatic transmission B is controlled in learning by a means E in such a way that the actually measured time of inertia phase time is consistent with a target value. And the output torque of the engine A during the shifting operation is changed by a means F. In the constitution set forth herein above, a change in output torque by the means F is detected by a means G. CONSTITUTION:In case of the invention being applied to a snowplow truck which mounts onto an under carriage, having a running gear 5, a prime mover so as to drive by its power a snowrake auger 8 provided in the front part of a truck body 1 and a snow lifting fan 9 springing up snow, raked in by the auger 8, toward a release cylinder 10, a sensor 3 is provided in a control panel 18 in the front part of a drive handle 2 provided behind the truck body 1. This sensor 3 is formed by combining a light emitting element with a light receiving element, serving as the photosensor directed toward the rear, and an operator can be detected to disappear in a driving position in the drive handle part 2. And being based on a detecting result of this sensor 3, a power unit of the prime mover is cut off so as to perform an emergency stop of running.

CONSTITUTION:A liquid helium reserving vessel 27 helium refrigerating and liquefying machine 24 storing liquefied helium manufactured via a heat exchanger 25 is provided, in an LNG ship equipped with plural number of LNG tanks 21. Moreover, the ship is equipped with a high temperature type solid electrolyte fuel cell 31 generating dc electric current by reaction of ordinary temperature natural gas cold recovered and high temperature oxidizer (air and the like), and dc electric current generated here is applied to a superconductive magnet 43 to generate a magnetic field in sea water. Further, a plus side electrode 45 an a minus side electrode 46 are set up in sea water, and propelling force designated with a fat arrow mark in the figure is obtained by leading dc electric current to them, according to the Lorentz's lefthand rule. The superconductive magnet 43 is housed into a liquid helium vessel 40 and kept in a cooled state.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve a plant availability factor, in a plant in which exhaust heat of a power generating plant is utilized as a heat source of air-conditioning, hot water supply and the like, by providing such a constitution that a bleeder condensing turbine is used for the prime mover of a power generator, and the turbine bleed is supplied as the heat source of an absorption refrigerating machine. CONSTITUTION:A power generator 1 is arranged to be driven by a bleeder condensing turbine 2, and turbine bleed 3 is utilized as heat source of the concentrator 4a of an absorption refrigerating machine 4, while output cooling water 5 of the absorption refrigerating machine 4 is delivered to a turbine condenser 6. The bleeder condensing turbine 2 is driven by means of the recovery steam of an exhaust heat boiler 9 which utilizes exhaust gas of a gas turbine 7 for driving a main power generator 8. In the absorption refrigerating machine 4, an absorber 4d and a condenser 4b are forced to make heat radiation and cooling by circulating outside cooling water 20, 20', so that the cooling water is heated by itself to be utilized as hot water, while, cooling water 19 for air conditioning can be extracted from an evaporator 4c.

CONSTITUTION:An oil-hydraulic pump 1, an oil-hydraulic motor 4 for traveling and an actuator 52 for work-handling are connected to a controller 33 controlling the revolution speed of a prime mover so that operation of a travel pedal 6a can be changed to one under maximum revolution speed characteristics of the prime mover 21 in accordance with the degree of operation of the pedal. By means of a detecting device 37 detecting the degree of operation of the travel pedal 6a, signaling means 35 and 36 showing traveling mode and work-handling mode and the controller 33, the degree of operation of the pedal 6a and the revolution speed of the prime mover 21 are respectively sorted out to meet the revolution speed characteristics required by each of the traveling and the work-handling modes and are set therefor. Thereby a car can select revolution speed characteristics respectively for the traveling mode and for the work-handling mode, and the revolution speed of the prime mover 21 can be controlled by the degree of operation of the travel pedal 6a.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To suppress the new generation of speed change shock due to the excessive increase of the torque reduction of a prime mover by suspending the operation of a torque down means when an accelerator pedal is operated in the reduction direction during speed change. CONSTITUTION:An automatic transmission 2 selects a prescribed speed change stage from the selective hydraulic operation of each frictional element, and transmits the power of an engine 1 which is adjusted by an accelerator pedal with the gear ratio corresponding to the selected speed change stage. During the speed change in which the automatic transmission 2 selects the selected speed change stage, a torque down means lowers the output torque of the engine 1 and lightens the speed change shock. At this time, an accelerator return detecting circuit 23 detects the return operation of the accelerator pedal in the speed change on the basis of the throttle opening degree information supplied from a throttle opening degree sensor 9 and the speed change signal supplied from a speed change determining circuit 16, the torque reduction control for lightening the speed change shock is prohibited by suspending the operation of a torque down means. Therefore, the cause of the new generation of the speed change shock can be removed.

Abstract: The design of an individual joint of a robot manipulator typically includes some form of transmission between the prime mover and the joint itself. From a geometric point of view, employing a worm gearset can, in many situations, be a desirable way to realize this function. However, for some robot configurations, the manipulator and the worm gearset give rise to unstable behavior characterized by a growing oscillatory motion. A stabilizing controller for this type of system is necessary. Presented here is a synopsis of such a feedback control design which achieves stabilization. The system differential equations are linearized about a desired trajectory and averaged to obtain a set of linear time invariant equations. These linearized equations are then used as the plant-model for controller synthesis. The design synthesis is accomplished by classical lead-lag compensation. In a physical experiment, velocity feedback from the motor tachometer and digital control are used to implement and verify the control schemes.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To simplify the constitution of the rising or falling of a commodity mounting stage and to facilitate the maintenance of a prime mover by connecting freely and selectively the mounting stage to the rising or falling side of an endless belt which is driven only in one way by a connection means and therefore moving up and down the mounting stage without revolving the prime mover forward and reversely. CONSTITUTION:An endless belt 5 having the hook projecting parts (a) formed with the necessary pitch is driven only in one way by a prime mover set at a lower position. Then a joint part 11A or 11B of a connection device A which is controlled by an actuator like a solenoid 12 of a commodity mounting stage 3, etc., interlocks the parts (a) of the rise or fall side of the belt 5. Thus the rise and the fall of the stage 3 are controlled with no forward or reverse revolution of the prime mover. As a result, the constitution of the lift device is simplified and at the same time the maintenance of the prime mover is facilitated.

Abstract: A gearbox to drive six accessory units from a vehicle prime mover or alternatively from an auxiliary engine. A continuously variable ratio unit in the drive line from the prime mover provides a constant speed at a first input to the power transmission gears over the operating range of the prime mover. The auxiliary engine operates at a constant speed, driving a second input to the gearbox and by-passing the variable ratio unit to drive the accessories at the same constant speed as that provided by the prime mover. Over-running clutches permit the change-over to drive from one power unit to the other to take place while both are in operation.

The house usage is used as self-load for the generator load, so that the self-load may be considered an uncontrolled base load.
