TL;DR: In this article, a microstrip feedline on a substrate proximity-coupled to a rectangular microstrip patch on a covering superstrate is constructed, and a small open-circuit tuning stub is connected in shunt with the feed line.
Abstract: The letter presents experimental results for a proximity-coupled microstrip patch antenna capable of 13% bandwidth. The impedance match (VSWR ≤ 2), copolarised radiation patterns and crosspolarised radiation were measured over this bandwidth to confirm operation. The construction is quite simple, consisting of a microstrip feedline on a substrate proximity-coupled to a rectangular microstrip patch on a covering superstrate; a small open-circuit tuning stub is connected in shunt with the feed line.

TL;DR: In this paper, a method of forming stub ends used for joining pipes together by depositing successive layers of weld metal on the outer circumference of a rotating length of pipe is described, and the resulting structure is substantially uniform and homogeneous with a desirable grain structure, and is pore and defect free.
Abstract: A method of forming stub ends used for joining pipes together by depositing successive layers of weld metal on the outer circumference of a rotating length of pipe. Initial layers having a common forward edge but of decreasing width are deposited to provide metal for the machining of a radius joining the flange to the pipe. Thereafter, successive layers of weld metal of substantially the same width and the same common forward edge are deposited to form the flange. The method is preferably practiced by inert gas shielded pinch arc welding to provide an integral flanged stub end made up completely of weld metal. The resulting structure is substantially uniform and homogeneous with a desirable grain structure, and is pore and defect free. The method further provides economical manufacture of flanged stub ends with relatively little waste of materials.

TL;DR: In this paper, a very broadband termination using radial lines in a "shamrock" configuration has been developed, achieving a much wider bandwidth than adopting both a conventional straight stub and an "half-moon" configuration.
Abstract: A novel very broadband termination has been developed, using radial lines in a "shamrock" configuration. Broader bandwidths are achievable than adopting both a conventional straight stub and an "half-moon" configuration. with respect to the latter case, the circumferential mode excitation, that tipically results in a further narrowing of the useful bandwidth, is also avoided. An accurate modelling, developed by the authors, has been used in the design. Good agreement between theory and experiments has been obtained.

Abstract: A bandstop filter realized by means of rectangular resonators coupled to the center dielectric strip of a nonradiative dielectric (NRD) waveguide is described. This filter has the advantage that it is simple to manufacture, making use of a center dielectric of standard cross section. The design procedure is similar to the conventional strip line design procedure, with the stubs replaced by "stubs" of dielectric, or resonators. The design equations for the stub coupling are derived the properties of the stubs are obtained through measurement.

TL;DR: In this paper, a planar-circuit-type 3-dB hybrid consisting of a four-port circular disk-shaped resonator is proposed and improvements are obtained by rearrangement of the four ports upon consideration of the higher-order resonant modes and/or addition of a capacitive stub at the circumference of the resonator.
Abstract: Methods of improvement on a planar-circuit-type 3-dB hybrid consisting of a four-port circular disk-shaped resonator are proposed and described. The characteristics of a conventional circular disk hybrid are degraded gradually by higher-order modes of the disk resonator as the ratio of the disk radius to the port width decreases, i.e., as the center frequency becomes higher. This is caused mainly by the fact that the ports arrangement is based only upon the field distribution of the fundamental (1, 1) resonant mode (dipole mode). It is important in practice to prevent the deterioration of the hybrid characteristics because of the suitability of the hybrid for application at relatively high microwave frequencies. This is due to simplicity of its structure, and a small value of the ratio is desired for broadening the bandwidth. From the foregoing viewpoint, the purpose of this paper is to improve the hybrid characteristics without loss of simplicity. Great improvement is obtained by rearrangement of the four ports upon consideration of the higher-order resonant modes and/or addition of a capacitive stub at the circumference of the resonator. Furthermore, the bandwidth of the hybrid is broadened considerably by adding an impedance step between the resonator and each 50-Ω coupling port. These improvements also are confirmed experimentally.

TL;DR: In this article, a planar printed circuit is used for tuning the impedance of microwave integrated circuits (MICs). But the tuning process is performed on the planar part of the circuit, not on the whole circuit.
Abstract: A novel microwave tuning eIement capable of continuous adjustment has been realized in the form of a planar printed circuit. As such, it is suitable for incorporation into microwave integrated circuits (MIC's), where it can be used for fine-tuning the impedance match between two parts of a circuit when the two parts are either subject to variations due to manufacturing tolerances or are difficult to model. In either case, the tuner is a compact on-circuit tuning facility which does not have to be removed after use. The tuner has been shown to have unique impedance-transforming properties, being capable of matching any realizable impedance to a 50-Omega load. Its main part consists of a coupled-line section and across the gap in the sectiou at different places along its length are positioned two short-circuit bridge conductors. Movement of these bridges produces the variation in impedance transfomration.

TL;DR: In this paper, a measuring instrument consisting of a lance 1 which can scan in a furnace radial direction, the driving device 2 for the lance, and a microwave laser 3 mounted on the tip part of the Lance 1, and its signal processor 4 was used to measure the falling speed of the charge from the Doppler wave period between the sent wave and its reflected wave.
Abstract: PURPOSE:To take a measurement with high accuracy by installing a microwave antenna in a blast furnace, radiating a microwave to an in-furnace charge, and finding the falling speed of the charge from the Doppler wave period between the sent wave and its reflected wave. CONSTITUTION:This measuring instrument consists of a lance 1 which can scan in a furnace radial direction, the driving device 2 for the lance 1, and a microwave laser 3 mounted on the tip part of the lance 1, and its signal processor 4. The lance 1 is moved radially in the furnace 6 by the driving device 2 to select an optional measurement position in the furnace and stops at the measurement position only for a set time. The microwave oscillated by a microwave oscillator 13 is transmitted from the antenna 8 after passing through a circulator 14 and a stub tuner 15. The microwave which is reflected by the charge and received by the antenna 8 again is inputted to a detector 16 through the stub tuner 15 and circulator 14. The transmitted wave and received waves are mixed and detected by the detector 16 to generate a Doppler signal corresponding to the falling speed of the charge.
