TL;DR: There is, however, no conclusive evidence that the hepatopancreas is not a target tissuc for the hyperglycemic hormone, and it is assumed that integumentary tissue and muscle are the most important target tissues in hormonally induced hyperglycemia.

TL;DR: Limulus was the only species studied that lowered its permeability to water when acclimated to lower salinities, and all three genera ingest the medium when accustomed to sea water.

TL;DR: The effects of sublethal concentrations of mercury in combination with stressful temperature-salinity regimes were considered for larval development of the fiddler crab Uca pugilator (Bosc).
Abstract: The effects of sublethal concentrations of mercury in combination with stressful temperature-salinity regimes were considered for larval development of the fiddler crab Uca pugilator (Bosc.). Control organisms were compared to those treated with 1.8 ppb Hg for the following suboptimal regimes: 30°C, 30 ‰ S; 30°C, 20 ‰ S; 20°C, 30 ‰ S, and 20°C, 20 ‰ S. As physiological indicators of larval response, the survival rate, the O2 consumption rate, and phototactic response were measured, following either acute 24 h doses of Hg, or chronic rearing in Hg. All response parameters were modified in larvae maintained under the suboptimal conditions; mercury compounded the effects.

TL;DR: Synthetic Pandalus red pigment-concentrating hormone was effective in concentrating the pigment in the erythrophores of the fiddler crab Uca pugilator and the dwarf crayfish Cambarellus shufeldti, but this hormone had no effect on the melanophores ofThe crab or the leucophore of the crab and cray fish.

TL;DR: Cytochalasin B inhibits pigment granule translocation in melanophores of Uca pugilator both when these chromatophores are stimulated to disperse and when stimulated to aggregate pigment.

TL;DR: In this article, the radiation sensitivities of five estuarine decapod crustacea were compared: three species of fiddler crabs,Uca pugilator, U. pugnax, and U. minax: the blue crab, Callinectes sapidus, and grass shrimp,Palaemonetes pugio.
Abstract: The radiation sensitivities of five estuarine decapod crustacea were compared: three species of fiddler crabs,Uca pugilator, U. pugnax, U. minax: the blue crab,Callinectes sapidus, and the grass shrimp,Palaemonetes pugio. Temperature and salinity (20 C and 30 o/oo) and radiation dose rate (310 rad/min) were the same for all species. The 40-day LD-50 values for the fiddler crabs (U. pugilator, 9,800 rad;U. pugnax, 16,500 rad; andU. minax, 13,500 rad) fell between those of the blue crab, 42,000 rad, and grass shrimp, 215 rad. Possible physiological and ecological explanations for the differences in sensitivity are discussed.

TL;DR: In this article, the prawn Palaemonetes vulgaris was chromatographed on Bio-Gel P-6 and the results revealed melanin-dispersing activity in the fiddler crab Uca pugilator.
Abstract: 1. Extracts of the eyestalks and abdominal nerve cords of the prawn Palaemonetes vulgaris were chromatographed on Bio-Gel P-6. The fractions of both extracts revealed melanin-dispersing activity in the fiddler crab Uca pugilator and red and white pigment-dispersing activities and distal retinal pigment light-adapting activity in the prawn. In addition, the eyestalk fractions contained red and white pigment-concentrating activities whereas only the red pigment-concentrating activity was found in the fractions of the abdominal nerve cords.2. The pigment-dispersing and distal retinal pigment light-adapting activities were eluted from the column ahead of the pigment-concentrating activities and were consequently separated from them. However, the pigment-dispersing and distal retinal pigment light-adapting activities did not separate from each other. The pigment-concentrating activities likewise did not separate from each other.3. The substance from the prawn which evokes melanin dispersion in the fiddler crab...
