TL;DR: Ekistics will take into consideration the principles man takes into account when building his settlements, as well as the evolution of human settlements through history in terms of size and quality, to build the city of optimum size.
Abstract: \"Ekistics starts with the premise that human settlements are susceptible of systematic investigation\". Constantinos A. Doxiadis SYNOPSIS: In order to create the cities of the future, we need to systematically develop a science of human settlements. This science, termed Ekistics, will take into consideration the principles man takes into account when building his settlements, as well as the evolution of human settlements through history in terms of size and quality. The target is to build the city of optimum size, that is, a city which respects human dimensions. Since there is no point in resisting development, we should try to accommodate technological evolution and the needs of man within the same settlement.

TL;DR: A review of conditions existing in urban areas and a review of the Model Urban Neighborhood Development (MUND) Program in Baltimore are presented in this paper, where an appeal is voiced for a reversal of national priorities in the interest of national survival and the public interest with regard to housing, urban goals, and social problems so that the quality of life for our cities and their people may be improved.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors present a program to bring together the decision making and public policy aspects of real estate development and to help students develop skills related to land development in metropolitan areas.
Abstract: The purpose of this program is to bring together the private (decision making) and public (policy) aspects of real estate development and to help students develop skills related to land development in metropolitan areas. The program is interdisciplinary and covers all major aspects of the development process including design, feasibility analysis, land use regulation, market and location analysis, and negotiation. Thus, graduates from the program would bridge the gap between

TL;DR: In this paper, a decision support system for policy makers in the multicriteria selection among different planning and management options is presented, which is able to assess the whole environmental performance of urban systems and to control the developing trends towards sustainability, in consequence to different scenarios of human management.
Abstract: The need to collect and process information on urban ecosystem requires the introduction of innovative scientific tools, in order to analyze the current urban factors and to optimize the energetic and environmental profile of urban systems, with regard to carrying capacity and territorial needs and vocations.Addressing these needs requires two main elements: (i) public availability of transparent data; and (ii) availability of interactive software designed to make easier exploration of data, models and results. The aim of the present paper is to show a user-friendly software, which is designed as a decision support system for policy makers in the multicriteria selection among different planning and management options.Such software is able to assess the whole environmental performance of urban systems and to control the developing trends towards sustainability, in consequence to different scenarios of human management. It can be usefully employed to analyze the developing trends of urban ecosystems and to plan sustainable development strategies, as tool of decision-making support in the selection of the eco-sustainable options.
