TL;DR: In this article, the influence of crosswind on a high-speed rail vehicle negotiating a curve is investigated, and the vehicle response is studied for different gusts, and variations of some vehicle parameters are performed.
Abstract: Rail vehicles in everyday operation experience large lateral influences from curves and track imperfections, yielding large suspension deflections and displacements of the carbody relative to the track. Aerodynamic loads caused by crosswind may deteriorate the conditions that can result in vehicle overturning. This study investigates the influence of crosswind on a high-speed rail vehicle negotiating a curve. A multi-body simulation model of a high-speed rail vehicle is subjected to unsteady aerodynamic loads. The vehicle response is studied for different gusts, and variations of some vehicle parameters are performed.

TL;DR: In this article, a control algorithm using the extended Kalman filtration (EKF) to estimate the vehicle state was suggested, which can estimate the yaw rate, the longitudinal velocity, and the ride slip angle of the mass center.
Abstract: A control algorithm using the extended Kalman filtration(EKF) to estimate the vehicle state was suggested. The algorithm based on a 3-DOF nonlinear vehicle model was applied to estimate the yaw rate, the longitudinal velocity, and the ride slip angle of the mass center in the vehicle driving. The estimated vehicle state parameters were compared with the results from the vehicle field test. The comparison demonstrated that the EKF based algorithm can estimate quite accurately the above-mentioned vehicle driving state parameters.

TL;DR: This work examines the possibilities to use already on vehicle sensors for road roughness estimation and investigates what requirements existing signals must fulfill to ensure reliable estimates.
Abstract: Road conditions affect fuel efficiency and vehicle fatigue when driving heavy trucks. Information about traveled road conditions enable optimization of chassis configuration when driving, and logging of vehicle stress. Previous work on this topic focus mainly on tuning of active suspension parameters in the car industry. One conceivable application for heavy trucks is implementation of active chassis level control based on road conditions, with possible improvements in driving economy as result. Another is logging of usage conditions which helps explain vehicle faults caused by abnormal wear. This work examines the possibilities to use already on vehicle sensors for road roughness estimation. It also investigates what requirements existing signals must fulfill to ensure reliable estimates. Two methods for road roughness estimation are proposed using rear axle level sensor and a simple linear suspension system model.

TL;DR: In this article, model predictive control (MPC) is applied for controlling an over-actuated vehicle, where the control problem is associated with the distribution of the tyre forces to ensure vehicle stability.
Abstract: In this paper, model predictive control (MPC) is applied for controlling an over-actuated vehicle. The control problem is associated with the distribution of the tyre forces to ensure vehicle stability. The use of MPC is shown to be a suitable method if the vehicle's future desired trajectory is known. Simulation studies conducted show that access to information in advance, even if such information is restricted to only a few seconds, significantly contributes to maintaining vehicle stability. Furthermore, a longer prediction horizon results in earlier actions and stabilises the vehicle even better.

Abstract: A multi-body dynamic model was constructed for the rider-motorcyele system by means of the software ADAMS to study the handling stability of the motorcycle.A rider steering and attitude controller was designed using the software MATLAB.Based on the ADAMS-MATLAB co-simulation,the single-lane change and the steady-state circular driving of the rider-motorcycle system was analyzed. The simulation results indicated that the designed rider steering and attitude controller represents the rider behaviors well and the motorcycle follows the target track precisely. The co-simulation of the rider-motorcycle system can be used to study the handling stability of the motorcycle.
