Proposal for the Study of Thermophysical Properties of High-Energy-Density Matter Using Current and Future Heavy-Ion Accelerator Facilities at GSI Darmstadt
Naeem A. Tahir,Claude Deutsch,Vladimir E. Fortov,V. K. Gryaznov,Dieter H. H. Hoffmann,M. Kulish,Igor V. Lomonosov,V. B. Mintsev,P. Ni,Dmitry Nikolaev,A. R. Piriz,N. S. Shilkin,Peter Spiller,A. Shutov,Mauro Temporal,Vladimir Ya. Ternovoi,Serban Udrea,Dmitry Varentsov +17 more
TL;DR: The purpose of this Letter is to investigate with the help of two-dimensional numerical simulations, the potential of the FAIR to carry out research in the field of HED states in matter.
Journal ArticleDOI
Metallization of hydrogen using heavy-ion-beam implosion of multilayered cylindrical targets.
Naeem A. Tahir,Dieter H. H. Hoffmann,A. Kozyreva,Andreas Tauschwitz,A. Shutov,Joachim A. Maruhn,Peter Spiller,U. Neuner,Joachim Jacoby,Markus Roth,R. Bock,H. Juranek,Ronald Redmer +12 more
TL;DR: A two-dimensional simulation model is used for an experiment to study metallization of hydrogen in a heavy-ion beam imploded multilayered cylindrical target that contains a layer of frozen hydrogen to show that it may be possible to achieve theoretically predicted physical conditions necessary to create metallic hydrogen.
Journal ArticleDOI
Shock compression of condensed matter using intense beams of energetic heavy ions
Naeem A. Tahir,Dieter H. H. Hoffmann,A. Kozyreva,A. Shutov,Joachim A. Maruhn,U. Neuner,Anna Tauschwitz,Peter Spiller,R. Bock +8 more
TL;DR: Simulations show that this upgraded heavy-ion beam is capable of generating strong shocks in solid targets that compress the target material to supersolid densities and generate multi-mbar pressures.
Journal ArticleDOI
The CERN Large Hadron Collider as a Tool to Study High-Energy Density Matter
Naeem A. Tahir,V. Kain,R. Schmidt,A. Shutov,Igor V. Lomonosov,V. K. Gryaznov,A. R. Piriz,Mauro Temporal,Dieter H. H. Hoffmann,Vladimir E. Fortov +9 more
TL;DR: Numerical simulations of the thermodynamic and hydrodynamic response of a solid copper target that is irradiated with one of the LHC beams show that only the first few hundred proton bunches will deposit a high specific energy of 400 kJ/g that will induce exotic states of high energy density in matter.
Journal ArticleDOI
Ultrahigh compression of water using intense heavy ion beams: laboratory planetary physics
Naeem A. Tahir,Th. Stöhlker,A. Shutov,Igor V. Lomonosov,Vladimir E. Fortov,Martin French,Nadine Nettelmann,Ronald Redmer,A. R. Piriz,Claude Deutsch,Yongtao Zhao,Peng Zhang,Hu Xu,G Xiao,W Zhan +14 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors report simulations of water that show that one can generate a plasma phase as well as a superionic phase of water in the LAPLAS experiments.
