Machine Learning is the study of methods for programming computers to learn. Computers are applied to a wide range of tasks, and for most of these it is relatively easy for programmers to design and implement the necessary software. However, there are many tasks for which this is difficult or impossible. These can be divided into four general categories. First, there are problems for which there exist no human experts. For example, in modern automated manufacturing facilities, there is a need to predict machine failures before they occur by analyzing sensor readings. Because the machines are new, there are no human experts who can be interviewed by a programmer to provide the knowledge necessary to build a computer system. A machine learning system can study recorded data and subsequent machine failures and learn prediction rules. Second, there are problems where human experts exist, but where they are unable to explain their expertise. This is the case in many perceptual tasks, such as speech recognition, hand-writing recognition, and natural language understanding. Virtually all humans exhibit expert-level abilities on these tasks, but none of them can describe the detailed steps that they follow as they perform them. Fortunately, humans can provide machines with examples of the inputs and correct outputs for these tasks, so machine learning algorithms can learn to map the inputs to the outputs. Third, there are problems where phenomena are changing rapidly. In finance, for example, people would like to predict the future behavior of the stock market, of consumer purchases, or of exchange rates. These behaviors change frequently, so that even if a programmer could construct a good predictive computer program, it would need to be rewritten frequently. A learning program can relieve the programmer of this burden by constantly modifying and tuning a set of learned prediction rules. Fourth, there are applications that need to be customized for each computer user separately. Consider, for example, a program to filter unwanted electronic mail messages. Different users will need different filters. It is unreasonable to expect each user to program his or her own rules, and it is infeasible to provide every user with a software engineer to keep the rules up-to-date. A machine learning system can learn which mail messages the user rejects and maintain the filtering rules automatically. Machine learning addresses many of the same research questions as the fields of statistics, data mining, and psychology, but with differences of emphasis. Statistics focuses on understanding the phenomena that have generated the data, often with the goal of testing different hypotheses about those phenomena. Data mining seeks to find patterns in the data that are understandable by people. Psychological studies of human learning aspire to understand the mechanisms underlying the various learning behaviors exhibited by people (concept learning, skill acquisition, strategy change, etc.).

Additive manufacturing (AM) technologies are becoming an essential part of tomorrow's smart factories, where software, technologies, and processes are being integrated to deliver world-class results. AM is to provide extensive inputs to smart manufacturing systems using digital design, and specialised software-based manufacturing technology. AM helps to create product innovation, thereby impacting different areas of Industry 4.0. The purpose of this study is to understand how AM can impact various areas of Industry 4.0. A large number of research papers on additive manufacturing in Industry 4.0 and other related articles in the manufacturing field have been studied to identify its fifteen significant impacts and subsequent research direction. In future, AM will create technological advancement in design, manufacturing and provide a maximum contribution in Industry 4.0 to the self-optimise production system. AM helps to reduce a considerable amount of unused inventory and helps fulfil the customised demand of consumer and market. AM creates any customised prototype for specific users in lesser time. Impact of additive manufacturing in different areas of Industry 4.0

Objectives: In this study we describe the clinical presentation and electrolyte disturbances of thyrotoxic periodic paralysis (TPP) in patients admitted to the Department of Medicine at Hamad General Hospital. Methods: Retrospective descriptive study involving patients admitted to the medical department of Hamad General Hospital with paralysis and hyperthyroidism. Results: Eighteen patients with TPP were identified over a three-year period (2004-2007). Their mean age was 32.4 ± 8.52 years (range 21 to 48 years); all were males. Eleven patients were from the Philippines, five were from Nepal, one was Indian and one was from Sri Lanka. Fourteen patients (77.8%) had the attack in the summer while the remaining four in winter. Nine had a history of severe exertion, five had ingested a heavy carbohydrate meal, two had a sore throat, one had ingested alcoholic and one was without a precipitating cause. Fifteen patients had no previous history of hyperthyroidism. Later on, all patients proved to have hyperthyroidism. All patients were hypokalaemic, while seven patients had hypophosphataemia and three had hypomagnesaemia. Urinary potassium was <20 mmol/l in all patients. Fifteen patients had ECG changes. All patients had proximal myopathy. Twelve patients had signs of hyperthyroidism in the form of goitre, warm sweaty palms, tachycardia, and tremor. Nine patients had attacks of paralysis before diagnosis. After discharge, ten patients had recurrences within one to seven months. Conclusion: The causes of hypokalaemia and lower-extremity paralysis are numerous; TPP should be taken into consideration in the differential diagnosis of all acute episodes of motor paralysis, especially in young Asian male patients.

In the current global competitive environment, the economy and sustainability of a country particularly the developing nations depends to a great extent on the implementation of green and traditional technology transfer (GTTT). Thus there is a need to understand and educate key decision makers to enable them to implement technology transfer arrangements. In the present study, an attempt has been made to identify the barriers to GTTT based on available literature. A total interpretive structural modelling (TISM) approach has been used to develop a model to depict the dependence and driving power of identified barriers. An elaborate discussion on relationship among barriers to GTTT has been presented. The model presented in this study may help understand not only the barriers to technology transfer (TT) but also the relationship among them in terms of driving and dependence powers. Firms involved in TT will find this article useful in making and analysing technology transfer policy decisions.
