Gene-environment interactions in parkinsonism and Parkinson’s disease: the Geoparkinson study
Finlay Dick,G. De Palma,Ahmad Ahmadi,Aileen Osborne,Neil W. Scott,Gordon Prescott,Jill Bennett,Sean Semple,Smita Dick,Paola Mozzoni,Neva E. Haites,S. Bezzina Wettinger,Antonio Mutti,M. Otelea,Anthony Seaton,Peter Söderkvist,Alex E. Felice +16 more
TL;DR: There was a modest but significant association between MAO-A polymorphism in males and disease risk and there was insufficient evidence that the other gene-environment combinations investigated modified disease risk, suggesting they contribute little to the burden of PD.
Journal ArticleDOI
Gefitinib and EGFR Gene Copy Number Aberrations in Esophageal Cancer.
Russell D. Petty,Asa Dahle-Smith,David A J Stevenson,Aileen Osborne,Doreen Massie,Caroline Clark,Graeme I. Murray,Susan J Dutton,Corran Roberts,Irene Chong,Wasat Mansoor,Joyce Thompson,Mark Harrison,Anirban Chatterjee,Stephen Falk,Sean Elyan,Angel Garcia-Alonso,David Walter Fyfe,Jonathan Wadsley,Ian Chau,David Ferry,Zosia Miedzybrodzka +21 more
TL;DR: EGFR CNG assessed by FISH appears to identify a subgroup of patients with esophageal cancer who may benefit from gefitinib as a second-line treatment, and anti-EGFR therapies should be investigated in prospective clinical trials in different settings in EGFR FISH-positive and, in particular, EGFR-amplified esophagal cancer.
Journal ArticleDOI
A case-control study of Parkinson's disease and tobacco use: Gene-tobacco interactions†
Giuseppe De Palma,Finlay Dick,Stefano Calzetti,Neil W. Scott,Gordon Prescott,Aileen Osborne,Neva E. Haites,Paola Mozzoni,Anna Negrotti,Augusto Scaglioni,Antonio Mutti +10 more
TL;DR: Evidence of statistically significant gene‐tobacco interaction for GSTM 1, NAT2, and GSTP1 is found, the negative association between tobacco smoking and PD being significantly enhanced in subjects expressing GSTM1‐1 activity, in NAT2 fast acetylators, and in those with the GSTP 1*B*C haplotype.
Journal ArticleDOI
Impairment of colour vision in workers exposed to organic solvents
Sean Semple,Finlay Dick,Aileen Osborne,Aileen Osborne,John W. Cherrie,Anne Soutar,Anthony Seaton,Neva E. Haites,Neva E. Haites +8 more
TL;DR: Exposure to mixed solvents is associated with impairment in colour vision, the risk increases with increasing exposure, and the risk of impairment of colour vision was not altered in this study by the presence of different GSTM1, GSTT1 or NAT2 polymorphisms.
Journal ArticleDOI
Organic solvent exposure, genes, and risk of neuropsychological impairment.
Finlay Dick,Sean Semple,Aileen Osborne,Anne Soutar,Anthony Seaton,John W. Cherrie,L G Walker,L G Walker,Neva E. Haites +8 more
TL;DR: In regression analyses increasing solvent exposure was associated with increasing risk of cognitive impairment, after adjustment for IQ, smoking and alcohol, and there was also an association between exposure and reduction in grip strength.
