Active case finding for tuberculosis among people who inject drugs on methadone treatment in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania
Akash Gupta,Jessie Mbwambo,I. Mteza,Sheela V Shenoi,Barrot H. Lambdin,Cassian Nyandindi,B. I. Doula,S. Mfaume,Robert Douglas Bruce +8 more
TL;DR: This study presents the first data on TB prevalence in a population of PWID in Tanzania, with a prevalence 23 times that of the general Tanzanian TB prevalence of 0.2%.
Journal ArticleDOI
Chemical scaffolds with structural similarities to siderophores of nonribosomal peptide-polyketide origin as novel antimicrobials against Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Yersinia pestis.
Julian A. Ferreras,Akash Gupta,Neal D. Amin,Arijit Basu,Barij Nayan Sinha,Stefan Worgall,Venkatesan Jayaprakash,Luis E. N. Quadri +7 more
TL;DR: This study illustrates the possibility of screening compound libraries in both iron-rich and iron-limiting conditions to identify antimicrobials that may selectively target iron scarcity-adapted bacteria and highlights the usefulness of building combinatorial libraries of compounds having scaffolds with structural similarities to siderophores to feed into antimicrobial screening programs.
Journal ArticleDOI
A human secretome library screen reveals a role for Peptidoglycan Recognition Protein 1 in Lyme borreliosis.
Akash Gupta,Gunjan Arora,Connor E. Rosen,Zachary A. Kloos,Yongguo Cao,Yongguo Cao,Jiri Cerny,Jiri Cerny,Andaleeb Sajid,Dieuwertje Hoornstra,Maryna Golovchenko,Natalie Rudenko,Ulrike G. Munderloh,Joppe W. Hovius,Carmen J. Booth,Christine Jacobs-Wagner,Christine Jacobs-Wagner,Noah W. Palm,Aaron M. Ring,Erol Fikrig,Erol Fikrig +20 more
TL;DR: Findings suggest that PGLYRP1 plays a role in the host’s response to B. burgdorferi and further demonstrate the utility of expansive yeast display screening in capturing biologically relevant interactions between spirochetes and their hosts.
Journal ArticleDOI
Management of noninfectious scleritis
TL;DR: There is a myriad of immunomodulatory agents used in the treatment of scleritis including antimetabolites, calcineurin inhibitors, biologics, and alkylating agents, which have a wide range of efficacy and documented use in the literature.
