A lack of essential fatty acids as a possible cause of hyperactivity in children.

This comprehensive review contains a section on prostaglandins commenting on several possible interactions of prostaglandins on essential fatty acids (EFA). The section of prostaglandins reviews about 30 documents on sites of synthesis conversion of EFAs to prostaglandins and the physiological roles attributed to these compounds. Reported is a new approach to studies of the mechanism of action of EFAs which has been provided by the demonstration that ERAs can act as precursors of the physiologically active substances called prostaglandins. Prostaglandins function in many metabolic processes and seem to be involved in the control of blood pressure muscle contraction and enzyme and/or hormone induction.
