Journal ArticleDOI
A continuum from clear to cloudy hot-Jupiter exoplanets without primordial water depletion
David K. Sing,Jonathan J. Fortney,Nikolay Nikolov,Hannah R. Wakeford,Tiffany Kataria,Thomas M. Evans,Suzanne Aigrain,Gilda E. Ballester,Adam Burrows,Drake Deming,Jean-Michel Desert,Neale P. Gibson,Gregory W. Henry,Catherine M. Huitson,Heather Knutson,Alain Lecavelier des Etangs,Frederic Pont,Adam P. Showman,Alfred Vidal-Madjar,Michael H. Williamson,Paul Wilson +20 more
TL;DR: The difference between the planetary radius measured at optical and infrared wavelengths is an effective metric for distinguishing different atmosphere types, so that strong water absorption lines are seen in clear-atmosphere planets and the weakest features are associated with clouds and hazes.
Journal ArticleDOI
Search for Carbon Monoxide in the atmosphere of the Transiting Exoplanet HD189733b
Jean-Michel Desert,Alain Lecavelier des Etangs,Guillaume Hébrard,David K. Sing,David Ehrenreich,Roger Ferlet,Alfred Vidal-Madjar +6 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors presented new primary transit observations of the hot-jupiter HD189733b, obtained simultaneously at 4.5 and 8 micron with IRAC instrument onboard Spitzer.
Journal ArticleDOI
The Rossiter-McLaughlin effect of CoRoT-3b & HD189733b
Amaury H. M. J. Triaud,Didier Queloz,François Bouchy,Claire Moutou,Andrew Collier Cameron,Antonio Claret,Pierre Barge,Willy Benz,Magali Deleuil,Tristan Guillot,Guillaume Hébrard,Alain Lecavelier des Etangs,Christophe Lovis,Michel Mayor,Francesco Pepe,Stéphane Udry +15 more
TL;DR: In this article, a combined Markov-Chain Monte Carlo analysis of spectroscopic and photometric data on these stars was applied to determine a full set of system parameters including the project spin-orbit misalignement angle of HD 189733b to an unprecedented precision via the Rossiter-McLaughlin effect.
Journal ArticleDOI
The Deep Blue Color of HD 189733b: Albedo Measurements with Hubble Space Telescope/Space Telescope Imaging Spectrograph at Visible Wavelengths
Thomas M. Evans,Frederic Pont,David K. Sing,Suzanne Aigrain,Joanna K. Barstow,Jean-Michel Desert,Neale P. Gibson,Kevin Heng,Heather Knutson,Alain Lecavelier des Etangs +9 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a secondary eclipse observation for the hot Jupiter HD 189733b across the wavelength range 290-570 nm made using the Space Telescope Imaging Spectrograph on the Hubble Space Telescope is presented.
Journal ArticleDOI
Temperature-Pressure Profile of the hot Jupiter HD 189733b from HST Sodium Observations: Detection of Upper Atmospheric Heating
Catherine M. Huitson,David K. Sing,Alfred Vidal-Madjar,Gilda E. Ballester,Alain Lecavelier des Etangs,Jean-Michel Desert,Frederic Pont +6 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors detect absorption from the NaI doublet within the exoplanet's atmosphere at the 9 sigma confidence level within a 5 Ang band (absorption depth 0.15628 +/- 0.01%) and use the data to measure the doublet's spectral absorption profile.
